Hungary's governing Socialist party has found a replacement for a representative -- who is behind bars facing corruption charges -- in the Budapest city council's general assembly, the party's Budapest executive said on Saturday.
The post needs to be filled with urgency in order to enable the Budapest general assembly pass the city budget next Thursday, said Zsolt Molnar.
The Socialists' Budapest board will propose the deputy mayor of Budapest's 23rd district to fill the post which has been empty since Gyorgy Hunvald returned his mandate, he said.
The Budapest City Council was originally supposed to approve its budget by March 15.
However, after the preliminary detention of Socialist district mayor Hunvald, the Socialists and the Free Democrats lost their one-person majority in the general assembly.
As a result of the lack of a budget, the Budapest City Council has received around 5 billion forints less from the state each month, which has caused numerous austerity measures, such as the suspension of up to 30 percent of bonuses and clothing allowances to workers.
Scruffy council workers...and no holidays abroad this year?? How sad.
"Lack of a budget?" Lack of brains and skill, and ethics - more like.
I mentioned some time ago about your friendly German neighbours dumping shit on Hungary's doorstep.
Herewith some more news from Pestiside:
"Lots of bad feelings down in Southern Hungary this week towards Southern Germany, following news that two German provinces identified as the source of garbage illegally exported and dumped here won't take it all back. While the Germans agreed to haul home 60% of the more than 4,000 tons of trash illegally dumped, they've decided that the rest has to be picked up by whatever crooks arranged for its unlawful stashing. Happily, we know of one such piece of human garbage who we'd love to watch being forced to eat a few tons of it." [delmagyar.hu]
Corrupt Hungarian officials on the payroll of
the dodgy Germans. Take this little lot to the EU and get the whole network of devious bastards locked away for some considerable time to come!
Well said Kuka!
