Hungary’s Democratic Forum (MDF) and the British Conservatives are similar and are proceeding along a “normal” conservative path, Ibolya David, the MDF leader, told a news conference on Thursday.
David noted that she had met Tory leader David Cameron and shadow foreign minister William Hague in London on Wednesday to discuss preparations for the European Parliamentary elections and economic matters.
Both parties have very similar prescriptions for the economic crisis, namely, increased control of public spending, the rationalisation of welfare spending and simplifying the fiscal budget, she said. In addition to measures to stimulate the economy, both parties promote the use of green technology, she added.
David added, however, despite the similarities, Hungary and its surrounding region faced tougher problems compared to Britain and the central European country should strive to join the euro as soon as possible.
Cameron said the Conservative party welcomed that Lajos Bokros and Gyorgy Habsburg were top Democratic Forum candidates for the European parliamentary elections.
strive to join the euro asap!!! That will be a real disaster for Hungary…prices will be sky high, because that’s what happend in the countries who join the euro already. And this happened before the crises.
What made a mass in western europe?
-EU membership = EU control
-Mass immigration
-The euro
So hungarians wake up!
Hello Géza!
The EU is a club. Nothing wrong with that, it works for many of their existing members. The question for us is, are we qualified to be members of this club?
Adopting the Euro as our currency exposes our horrifying structural and economic weaknesses relative to the other members. It levels the playing field with other rich members, and empowers them to buy us up for a song. No shame on them mind you, shame on us. We spent the last 20 years getting nowhere, with no sound economic management. The adoption of the euro will make this reality apparent.
I am one Hungarian patriot who holds that the adoption of the Euro is just the outside pressure that our clueless race requires. It would be the very big stick against our leaders’ assses that our own people could never deliver.
Any nation that dislikes the idea of the euro, should realy focus on getting richer, then there will be no problem. If it’s good enough for Germany, France or the Netherlands, then it should be good enough for us. The fact that such an issue fills us with agnst tells me that we are not as good as these nations, and that is the real problem. Life is always about money.
Very true, Laci! If Hungary bows to pressure to adopt the euro before it is ready this will only create further problems.
Fiscal policies, tax reform,re-structuring of local and central government, rural and education issues etc. etc. All await the next government plus whatever the MSZP manage to “fuck up” in the meantime…egészégére!
