Free Democrats file complaints in two cases of alleged hate speech

Hungary’s liberal opposition Free Democrats have asked the Chief Prosecutor to investigate two cases of alleged incitement to hatred against a group, the party’s parliamentary group leader Peter Gusztos said on Thursday.

In the first case, the radical nationalist weekly Magyar Forum published a front-page photograph of Gyorgy Suranyi, a former central banker who was being sought by the party as a candidate for prime minister, framed in a Star of David.

In the second case, Krisztina Morvai, who heads the European Parliamentary election list of the radical nationalist Jobbik party, sent a letter to Jobbik supporters, calling on them to “tell a liberal if they meet one that they despise the Free Democrats and urge its disappearance from politics”.
