Radical nationalist party Jobbik on Thursday criticised the Hungarian media, accusing it of failing to cover its manifesto while slandering the party.
“With a month to go until the European parliamentary elections, it is high time to end the silencing of Jobbik and the publication of lies and slander about the party,” Krisztina Morvai, who tops Jobbik’s list for the election, told a press conference.
It is a constitutional right of citizens to get acquainted with Jobbik and its programme, and a constitutional and legal obligation of media leaders to provide access to such information, she said.
Morvai said Jobbik was campaigning on keeping farmland in Hungarian hands and protecting Hungarian markets. The party would immediately revoke all regulations that give preference to foreigners and multinational companies over Hungarians. In addition, Jobbik proposes reintroducing the gendarmerie in rural areas, she said.

Morvai should visit the US….the only thing that EVER gets reported about Hungary over here is the “troubling increase of racism and ultranationalism.” To hear the NY Times talk, you’d think György Budaházy was the electoral front-runner and mobs of skinheads can be seen roaming every street as soon as the sun goes down.
Mariska.
You are correct in your observations, the NY Times works to a fixed agenda, dictated by its owners with a mission to ridicule the rise of patriotic parties anywhere.
Erik rambles on about Putin’s Russia, but for real propaganda he should look in his own back yard.
Yes, send the insanely ranting nationalist harpy Morvai to the US on a speaking tour to show the world that there is more to Hungary than nationalism and racism? That may be one of the stupidest comments ever made on these forums. Morvai is so strident and annoying when speaking in English that she is one of the only people I have ever heard actually get cut off during an interview on BBC radio.
Dozsa, Dr Krisztina Morvai speaks excellent English, with a tone as pleasant as her Hungarian speaking voice. You lie when you say that you heard the BBC ‘cut her off’. Whatever else might be said of the BBC, it extends unfailing courtesy to the people it invites on its programs, even to thoroughly obnoxious characters like Mark Regev (about whom, of course, you would not choose to peddle the same lie).
Hi Sophie,
Dr Krisztina Morvai does speak English well with passion! Agree! She will do a fantastic Job once she is elected..
God grant, Silvia! Sadly though, the better is once elected, the less will be the anglophone media attention she gets. Ours is a captive media, top to bottom.
You know what, why not vote these total loosers in and put the final nail in the Hungarian coffin.
No doubt everyone would stand around scratching their heads wondering how these idiots came to power (sound familiar?).
I cant believe the media give them any coverage at all let alone the tossers who actually agree with what they stand for.
The examples Morvai mentions are strict National questions, that the EU has nothing to with, so what should she do in the EP?
Except giving work for the top leadership of Jobbik in Brussels on her expense account?
Morvai was originally, after 2006, slated to be the Justice Minister of a Fidesz Government, but end of 2007, beginning of 2008, she felt manoeuvred out from that position and contacted Vona Gabor, Jobbik.
He could of course hardly keep his pants on in delight to have such an important figure and from that time Morvai was the Jobbik 1st candidate for the EP.
To see and hear her speak Hungarian, even if you do not understand a word, was easy 2 years ago on Fidesz’ HirTV where they showed her around the hour. I do not think “a tone as pleasant as her Hungarian speaking voice” was exactly what came to your mind, but old aunt Sophie may be forgiven. Someone need to give her money to buy new batteries to her hearing-aid.
I imagine that Dr Morvai does not seriously expect that the media coverage of Jobbik will become either greater or better. After all, she knows who controls the media. But she did well, as a politician and as a lawyer and academic, to point to the constitutional right of people to be informed accurately and fairly about players on the political scene.
Her campaign to keep farmalnd in Hungarian hands is hugely commendable, as is her desire to re-instate the gendarmerie. What makes some people snarl about that, or about her?
I’m not denying Morvai speaks English well, but when she slid into that grating, monotone haranguing voice trying to interrupt a BBC reporter during a discussion about police brutality in 2007, the folks at World Service radio had to shut her microphone down. No lie, she just isn’t presentable outside of her small cultish circle of right wing admirers. The BBC offers airtime to a lot of repugnant and prevaricating world figures, but Morvai takes the cake in terms of transparent sneering hate speech these days. It will be amusing to see the reception her speeches get in the EU Parliament. It should bring her more of the publicity she so thrives on than the Simek Kitty case!
Sophie – “the constitutional right of people to be informed accurately and fairly about players on the political scene.”
What is this?
Free Speech or State Propaganda?
The Jobbik/MIEP-people I know go for the latter, then they want to have control over who owns media and who says what, which agenda they have etc. Hardly Free Speech.
Sophie – “Her campaign to keep farmalnd in Hungarian hands is hugely commendable, as is her desire to re-instate the gendarmerie”.
So, if you want to forbid non-Hungarian citizens to compete on equal terms (farm-land must be used to farming, not build houses etc), you will hardly expect to be treated with equality by other countries inside the EU?
Why do you want to punish the children of the Hungarians that fled -56 and today have German or Swedish citizenship, from coming back to their parent’s country-side and eject some life and new standards in the back-water that is the Hungarian country-side?
The “re-instate the gendarmerie”.
Well, what would Hungary win to have yet another Police Force? If we look at EU-countries that have that, like France and Italy, the rivalry between the different Police Forces hampers good Police work. If more and better Police Officers are needed in the country-side, that should be the demand.
So none of these 3 points are hardly EU-questions, where the discussion is more how to protect the seals. Maybe Morvai/Jobbik need to raise the typical Hungarian demand of “Free Commercial Seal Hunting in Balaton!”.
Viki,
Selling out Hungary to the EU maybe in your best interest, you must be doing some shady real estate or other deals here, taking advantage of the wide-spread corruption. It’s not good for Hungary and Hungarians, the sooner they realize it, the better. Giving away our limited natural resources, farmland and water, out of control “privatization”, the destruction of key industries, large scale waste and theft of money borrowed, etc. It’s insane.
We should get out of the EU, make our own rules and be more independent for a change. What can we lose? End up like Switzerland?
Well, you could have Hungary become a Libertarian paradise, just like Somalia: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QDv4sYwjO0
@Godot – key industries? LOL! Kleptomania is alive and well, even among you exiles who returned.
Simpleton and CB (Cigány Bűnöző),
You two must be the dunbest of the pile, even by SZDSZ “standards”.
Godot, I am probably the only foreigner who:
- lives in Hungary,
- pay taxes in Hungary,
- make my money abroad (that is outside Hungary) and
- my foreign Customers (that is still outside Hungary) sends a lot of Euro every month that passes the Hungarian National Bank (necessary for Foreign Exchange) to my Hungarian company bank account.
I actually increases the Hungarian BNP, do you do that?
It is true, I do invest my Companies money in real estate in Budapest, because I want to stay here and have a future for my retirement. (I do not trust State Pensions)
I ‘import’ “ethnic Hungarians” from Romania and Ukraine, give them work and official papers as Hungarians, which means that they will pay taxes etc in Hungary. The reason for the ‘import’ is that you cannot find any “Hungarians” (meaning people born in Hungary) that does understand the meaning of the word ‘work’, for that you need to go out of the current borders.
It is funny that you guys, who like to speak about Freedom and Free Speech always want to have regulations in everything, or how are you suppose to interpret ‘out of control “privatization”‘.
How do you have ‘controlled “privatization”‘?
Through bribes – How else? Like the old Communist time. That is the society you always want to return to.
If people like you would have it your way (there actually does not exist any clause to leave the EU), Hungary would really go down the drain. The Kampuchea of Europe – a good slogan for you guys
Actually the only reason why Jobbik is publishing this ‘Complaint’ is of course that they, like MIEP every election, will blame their poor results on ‘the media’.
MIEP will of course explicitly put in the word ‘jewish’ somewhere there. They cannot make a sentence without it.
What a bunch of losers – they will never be able to see the truth why people does not vote on them. Learn from the Austrians – get a homosexual paedophile as Party Leader, that win votes.
Viking your a GAY Poofter IDIOT!
Tinkabell – AKA Hot Paprika AKA ‘Anonymous’ – usually on the weekends you go off your Australian government-subsidized medications that treat your mental condition, have a few forbidden drinks, log onto these forums, and have a go at anybody trying to actually discuss the fate of Hungarians. We know this because you can’t spell or use proper English punctuation, and you often tag those who disagree with you by saying “Love you too…” What also identifies you is the fact that you seem obsessed with homosexual erotic punishments and insults to those with whom you disagree. Personally, I don’t mind – I’m a “normal” – I have a girlfriend, a life, I am not on medications, I read a wide variety of print and internet media to keep up on Hungary’s situation. But you are one sick puppy. Why don’t you go back to Oz and seek help? You don’t speak Hungarian, and compulsive posting on web forums about neo-nazi ideologies you don’t understand is not helping Hungarians in the least. You are a sad, sick troll. I see you came here to avoid seeking help, but you are just hurting Hungary by staying here.
Dosza go easy on Tinkabell, coming to terms with your own sexuality is not easy, especially when your sexual fetishes are in conflict with the core racist values you were brought up with.
I can imagine that there is a lot of pent up anger for him. “Why aren’t I like the other boys, why do I get sexually aroused when I see butch men dressed in camoflage and with shaven heads, why do I wish I was accepted as the little fairy in Peter Pan and not have to save that for the private moments with myself”. These are all things Tinkabell has to struggle with on a daily basis.
Dosza. Very interesting. T’Bell? An ignorant, Australian, neo-nazi, gay poofter, out to destroy Hungary?
Don’t sit on the fence, now. Tell him/her what you really think.
Dosza–no, that’s completely the opposite of what I meant! I meant she should visit the US and read American papers if she wants to see Jobbik getting a lot of coverage!! Geez.
Jobbik! Minden párt retteg tőlünk, csak az emberek nem
szebb jövőt
Was it not always HotPaprika who used the expression “szebb jövőt”?
No , it was Ricsi !
