Orbán campaigns in Transylvania, says minorities to gain power

The future standing of the Hungarian nation is at stake at the upcoming European Parliament elections, Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán said in a 20-minute speech at Kézdivásárhely, Transylvania on Tuesday.

Orbán is in the region to accompany Transylvanian-Hungarian National Council president László Tőkés, who heads the joint candidate list of the Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania (RMDSZ) and EMNT for the June 7 elections.

The Fidesz leader asserted that “nations, rather than countries’ borders, will gain greater significance over the next 30 to 40 years, as one era is over and rapid and radical transformation is underway in the world. The cause of autonomy will assume greater significance”.

But Victor, Transylvania is in Romania, not Hungary! Sheesh… what
are they teaching in Hungarian schools? Not in Hungary = not
Hungarian citizens = no votes in Hungary. Maybe it’s wrong,
Triannon blah blah blah.. but there it is. Isn’t it about time – I mean
it’s the best part of 100 years and there can be very few people left
alive from that time – to move on and accept that this is the way it
is? Nations… good grief Victor, what a load of wishy-washy piffle.
Unless, of course he’s campaigning for the elections to be held in
    2040.
Victor, Victor! Over here! Big problems in own country! People in
Romania irrelevant! Hungarians bankrupt, jobless, in poverty,
under heel of Pseudo-communist kleptocracy! Come back and DO
    SOMETHING!

I think you miss the meaning of the expression:
    “nations, rather than countries’ borders”.
What Vikki is saying is that with the tighter integration inside the EU, when Romania comes into the Schengen-zone and both countries adopts the Euro, will there be less important on which side of the ‘old border’ you live.
More important which language you speak and to which group you want to belong to.
This will of course create a lot of new opportunities for the border regions and things go back to how it was 150-200 years ago, when the borders between countries was a rather relaxed thing. Most countries did not have passports for normal people before WWI, except Russia of course.
There is a reason why the current Jobbik leadership loves them.

Viking@ your obsession with Jobbik and with all things Russian severely limits your ability to progress in life.

  4. Viking says:

    fabian,
Thank You for caring about my ‘ability to progress in life’.
I get that warm feeling inside.

Quatermass. In your last posting you have restored my faith in the belief that there are intelligent Hungarians who know what is actually happening in the villages and cities of this country.
This, of course, excludes Orban (Count Dracula?)
Viktor who seems hell-bent on starting the Fidesz campaign trail in Transylvania.
PS: “Hungary fell seven places, to 45th, of the 58 countries assessed in the International Institute for Management Development’s (IMD) World Competitiveness Ranking, just behind the Philippines…” Enough said???
