The Budapest Prosecutor General on Friday pressed forgery charges against eight persons in connection with the 2007 Free Democrat leadership election.
Spokeswoman Gabriella Skoda said charges had been brought against a chairwoman of one of the party’s county chapters and seven associates.
The woman allegedly persuaded her fellow defendants at the March 30-31 convention to register themselves on behalf of four delegates who were absent and to vote with the ballots they had received in the names of the absentees.
János Kóka was elected chairman at the convention but lost an election to Gábor Fodor by two votes in the summer of 2008 after the irregularities emerged.

Neo Liberals SZDSZ just cant help themselves continuos corrupt, cheats lies and poofs they need to be lynched..
This might make them think twice in committing a crime.
As I understand this must have been SZDSZ that filed the claim, than hardly anyone not being a member in SZDSZ can have a legal opinion about how they internally choose their leaders.
It would be like if I, an atheist, would report the Hungarian Catholic Church to the Police because I knew that they cheated in the election of the latest Bishop.
Viking: “As I understand…”
You don’t understand anything.
1. SZDSZ can cheat as much as they like as long as they become a church and stay away from politics.
2. SZDSZ didn’t file any claims, it was Hir TV that reported the case. SZDSZ tried to deny it, they even threatened Hir TV with a lawsuit for accusing them to be dishonest. We all know how it turned out.
People who live in Hungary and still don’t understand the language, (like you, Viking), should not get involved with discussions on politics. The fine details are usually lost in translation.
Godot,
An internal election/procedure inside any party/organisation can hardly be a public crime. Police and courts are there to investigate crimes to the public, not what is going on inside different organisations.
HirTV broke the story, but HirTV can hardly be the cause of the investigation by the Police, then it is an internal matter, like the church.
What is the meaning of having an English-language site do you think? Just agreeing with you Jobos?
There’s no such thing as “internal” anything when it comes to political parties. Do you want a bunch of lying, cheating bastards to sit in the Parliament making decisions? Most of us don’t, so SZDSZ has got to go. Let them start a new religion.
@Godot, not worth wasting your thoughts and energy on Viking and his alias.
Godot,
As usual you are missing the point:
If the SZDSZ leadership had not allowed reported the cheating to Police, there would not have been any investigation. That is the simple fact. No 3rd party was involved.
It is like in Sweden for many years ‘wife-beating’ was not a Public Crime, so even if you witnessed it, if the wife did not want to press charges, the Police could not do anything. Same thing legally, but I know that legal things is not your strong side, either.
So, we can look at this in 2 ways:
a) The SZDSZ leadership was honest enough to clear their internal problems public.
b) The SZDSZ leadership will cost society several millions of HUFs in cost for the investigation, court-case and sentencing.
