Orbán says country’s MEPs to represent Hungarians from throughout region

Hungarian deputies in the European Parliament will have to represent all Hungarians living in the Carpathian Basin, the head of the conservative opposition Fidesz party, Viktor Orban said at an election rally on Tuesday.

Whoever fails to understand this, or is offended by this, is not familiar with the essence of the European Union, Orban said, referring to recent expressions of concern by Slovak, Czech and German politicians in the wake of his remark last Saturday.

At a rally in Esztergom, a Hungarian border town with Slovakia, Orban had said that the upcoming EP elections will determine how many deputies can represent the Hungarians of the Carpathian Basin in Brussels.

This remark has raised the eyebrows of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Czech Foreign Minister Jan Kohout and German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who said Germany was concerned by Orban’s statement.

There is a country which has not noticed up till now that we had done this in the past five years, too, we had represented all Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin, Orban said.

Would not any Schwab MEP from Hungary then represent the Germans in Europe?
Is it an error in the end of the article “There is a country which has not noticed…”?
Something missing or which country does he mean?
