The last day of campaigning before European Parliament elections in Slovakia saw the country’s parliament busy debating a resolution condemning statements by Fidesz leader Viktor Orbán, the Slovak Spectator reports.
The speaker of the Slovak parliament convened the extraordinary session at the request of 50 MPs of the governing coalition. The MPs said that Orbán’s statements linking the elections in Hungary and Slovakia – which has a sizable ethnic Hungarian population – was separatist and an affront to the sovereignty of countries in the region with Hungarian minorities.
