Jobbik party slogan deemed unconstitutional

The Jobbik party slogan "Hungary belongs to Hungarians" is unconstitutional, the National Election Commission (OVB) declared on Wednesday.

A person had filed a complaint against the slogan, based on a passage in the Constitution which states that "National and ethnic minorities living in the Hungarian Republic form part of the people's power: they are constituent factors of the state".

The complainant also noted that the OVB had earlier said the slogan "Gyurcsány to Prison" violates the Constitution, and that the ruling was upheld by the Supreme Court. The slogan still appears in Jobbik campaign materials, he noted.

The person had asked the OVB to compel Jobbik to remove both slogans from its posters.
