Parties shun pre-election TV debate

In the absence of an agreement between Hungary’s political parties, the leading European Parliamentary candidates will not take part in a television debate which had been planned earlier, public television station MTV told MTI on Wednesday.

The ruling Socialist party said that it considered it “outrageous” that main conservative opposition party Fidesz was not inclined to participate in the eight-party debate, which was proposed by Lajos Bokros, the leading candidate of the Democratic Forum party.

Fidesz accused the Socialists of running shy of the debate.
