Majority disagrees with Orbán’s statement on role of Hungarian MEPs

A total of 53% of the Hungarian population disagrees with Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán’s statement in Esztergom on May 23 that all Hungarian and ethnic Hungarian MEPs elected on Sunday will represent the Carpathian Basin, according to a poll conducted by Szonda Ipsos.

Some 88% of Socialist respondents disagree with the view, while 34% of opposition supporters also disapproved.

Overall, 52% of respondents said there was no need for the Slovak Parliament to hold a special session because of Orbán’s remarks, but 28% found it justified.

The survey of 1,000 respondents was carried out on Wednesday.
