The statue of the mythical turul bird erected in the 12th District in 2005 must be pulled down, the Municipal Court ruled on Wednesday. The verdict is final and may not be appealed.
The lawyer for the 12th District said the district leaders will decide after receiving the verdict whether to file for a judicial review.
The district had challenged a decision by the Central Hungary Regional Administration Office to void the permit for the statue at the corner of Istenhegyi út and Böszörményi út.
The Municipal Court ruled that no violation of regulations could be cited to justify rescinding that ruling.
They can take away our symbols but not the truth, they dont realise that there only strengthening Hungarians by doing this, how idiotic are the Jewish Sect who are behind this whole agenda..

I can smell a perfectly possible, and potentially successful, public protest against the demolition order, on ground that it amounts to a gratuitous assault on a much-loved Hungarian symbol. Building regulations per se should not normally be enough to achieve this voiding, particularly since it targets only one, not all, erections of the Turul Madar kind. Originally this was a turf war between City of Budapest Administration and District 12 Administration. The latter have built the statue without getting approval from the City, then the City claim superiority over so called ‘main streets’ where trams and trolley-buses goes.
The small square is connected to one such street.
This is the legal conflict and the City has finally won the case.
Both parts can now chicken out and just run the process to move the statue very slowly and then let the guys that come in after next Local Election in the Autumn of 2010 inherent the problem.
The problem is that the next bunch cannot change the rules, then it has gone through the courts. The likely end of this scenario would then be that the future Bp politicians will break the law and let the statue stay.
Another scenario, is of course a fast action and we maybe will be seeing Magyar Garda in some real action. The question if Jobbik really wants that, what if the situation gets out of hands and Budahazy again take control over the protests like with the storming of the MTV house in September 2006?

You raise an interesting point, the Soviet War Memorial. Its destruction has been a rally-point for the right-wing since some years and is normally attacked when there are some bigger protests around that area.
What one can notice is that Jobbik has toned down its agitation about removing this statue, as Jobbik has becoming more and more Putin-friendly/Pro-Russian. One can even wonder if, in the future we will see Magyar Garda (or its planned conversion into the Hungarian Gendarmerie) standing in attention around this statue to protect it from the part of the right-wing movements that has not been eaten up by Jobbik.
Jobbik will have a problem here, because its Pro-Russian stand comes with a price. That price is that Stalin is being rehabilitated in today’s Russia and old symbols like the 5-pointed star is regarded in high respect. So an attack on a Soviet War Memorial will create some problems for Jobbik with its new Masters.
Conclusion: If you hate Jobbik, destroy the statue.

The statue-case is a good example of how SZDSZ tries to anger the extreme right to make them larger. First, identifying the Turul with nazis is really something that looks good for foreigners (who do not know history) but sounds quite fantastic for people in the country.
Because the connection is quite made up, the Turul was a national symbol for a long time. Even claiming that it is a Nazi symbol is simply an offense, and here I do not want to produce similar nonsense concerning the symbols of other countries.
With this move, Demszky not only wants to anger (all the) the right wing, but wants to present himself a the defender of the Jewish people. Then, these Jewish people will support him politically, since “he is defending them.” However, this has very bad consequences, since it looks like that Jewish people in general offend national symbols of Hungary. Short answer is that workers in West Germany were (and are) more producive than those in the east, and by equalizing wages all it did was create more unemployment in the east. Understand and agree, I meant no harm to the expats , but they come here to exploit our women and look upon them as easy prey. On many occasions when I meet an French, American or Uk citizens I discover this is there prime reason to travel here. I wish the sex industry would be regulated and eventually outlawed. I know it would be a difficult process but at least policed properly, with a red light district maybe, one of the oldest professions I know.

For months now the fate of the turul statue erected in Buda about three years ago has been in limbo. The turul is a mythical bird resembling an eagle or a falcon. According to legend there was a woman named Emese who was visited by an eagle/falcon in her dream. She became pregnant and gave birth to Álmos (in Hungarian dream is “álom”), the man who eventually led the seven Hungarian tribes to their new homeland in the Carpathian basin. The legend was most likely born when the Hungarians lived side by side with Turkic tribes because the word “turul” is of Turkic origin. As time went by the turul wasn’t so much the symbol of the Hungarian royal house as of power, war, and nobility in general. Such totem animals are well known the world over as parts of coats of arms; one can even find an eagle in the Great Seal of the United States. To this day the turul appears in the coat of arms of the Hungarian Army and the Office of National Security. So far, so good. So what’s wrong with that statue of the turul in District XII?
First of all, this particular statue was erected without a permit. The erection of a statue on public property must have the permission of a board whose members can decide about the artistic merit and the appropriateness of a particular work of art. The board wasn’t too taken with either the artistic merit or the appropriateness of this statue. One can certainly argue about the artistic value of this or that work of art, but when it came to the appropriateness of the statue there were grave doubts. The statue was supposed to commemorate the civilian victims of the district during the bombing and the subsequent siege of Budapest in World War II. But why use the symbol of the army as a memorial to civilian victims?
Then there was the problem that the turul had been used as a symbol of radical right-wing student organizations between the two world wars. In 1920 the right radical students of Budapest established the Turul Bajtársi Szövetség (Brotherhood Association of Turul) whose favorite pastime was beating up their fellow students of Jewish origin. The Turul Association had a very important part to play in the enactment of the law discriminating against Jews in admission to institutes of higher education (numerus clausus). A vivid description of the not infrequent “celebrations” of students of the Turul Association can be found in András Nyerges’s masterful account in “Március, kardlap, gumibot” (March, sword, night-stick) in the March 16, 2007 issue of Élet és Irodalom. The events described by Nyerges bear an uncanny resemblance to what has been going on in Budapest in the last couple of years. Rather frightening. In any case, the modern history of the turul was not something that was deemed appropriate as a memorial to the victims of 1944-45. In addition, early in the history of the Arrow Cross Party the turul was featured in the party’s emblem.
