Fidesz, Christian Democrats consider proposal to dissolve Parliament

The opposition Fidesz-Christian Democrat alliance will once again submit its motion for dissolving Parliament if the chance arises, Christian Democrats (KDNP) leader Zsolt Semjen told reporters in Budapest on Thursday.

“Should there be a chance for dissolving Parliament with the help of the liberal Free Democrats and some MPs of the ruling Socialists, we will present the motion again,” he said.

Semjen said Hungary can only get out of the current crisis if its government is backed by a stable social and parliamentary majority.

Fidesz and the Christian Democrats therefore demand early elections to be called and the government in office to continue its operation as a quasi acting government, he said.

Fidesz-KDNP scored a landslide victory in Sunday’s European parliamentary elections, acquiring 14 of the 22 seats contested, as against the four mandates won by the Socialists.

It would far more helpful if Fidesz could concentrate on coming up with some ideas and concrete polices of what they are going to actually do when they get in to power, as it almost certain they will, rather than seeming to devote all of their time and energy on just trying to get in to power as quickly as they can. I really do not feel they are being shy, when they give no real hint of how they will run the country, other than to state they will waste time just undoing everything the MSZP has done whether it is working or not. It would certainly give the citizens and economy a more optimistic and confident feeling about future to know that the next government has a very clear plan and can “hit the ground running” from their first day in office. At the moment they are worrying me that they will just carry out anything that seems popular with no strategy, only “playing to the audience”, rather than effective efficient management of the country to steer it away from the mess it is in.
