Earlier this morning, it was reported that Jobbik would seek to revise the terms of the Treaty of Trianon within the European Parliament, among some other things not to their liking. First off would be to overturn the Benes Decrees, ostensibly with German and Austrian support. The only problem with this idea is that the Germans have no far-right MEPs (not to mention they’ve not been so favorable toward the far-right since World War II didn’t end well for them), and the Austrian Freedom Party only has two members. Five MEPs do not a movement make, assuming the Freedom Party even cooperates with Jobbik, nor are Jobbik expected to get far in their plan to overturn the borders set up by the Treaty of Trianon in 1920, considering no other nation backs them in this endeavor.
Locally, Jobbik chairman Gábor Vona and 64 County Youth Movement leader László Toroczkai have joined forces alongside the Hungarian Guard and the new “Rascal Army” (Betyársereg), index.hu reported. The group, calling themselves the “Genuine National Side,” to distinguish themselves from those “leftists” over at Fidesz, have unlike their European Parliamentary plans of international border revision set their local sights a bit lower, stating they would try to prevent the Budapest Gay Pride Parade from being held later this year. If nothing else, it’s a bit more realistic…
Why would they try to prevent the Budapest Gay Pride Parade? How does that help anything? Do they see it as a chance to show off to the world press on what a great party they are and how proud Europe should be of Hungary?

I agree with the concerns of some of the more conservative elements here, that pride parades may be seen as obscene. If there were an annual straight pride parade with gyrating under clad straights overexposed on floats, I am sure that would not be approved of by them either. The nature of pride parades as displays of extreme degeneracy does nothing toward integration with the community at large, and also gives a false impression of what the average homosexual is.
As a lesbian , I would like to make the suggestion that the parade might still be held, but under certain restrictions as to attire, and defining permissable behavior. In this way gays would be able to demonstrate their commitment to the same accepted moral standards as the rest of society.

Yes it is possible. The two are NOT exclusive. Hungary is such a country. Denmark is another, for example.

The most disturbing social deveopment is that the Gays are trying to make there sexuality be accepted in mainstream society, and over time screw up young peoples minds and they turn to drugs and a perverted ego. Classic example of Amsterdam, Sydney and USA where drugs and violence are high in so called developed countries.
The gays are not doing the Parade to get a permission to have sex. Neither they would do it in public on the parade. The ideia of that is to fight homophobia and search for equal rights to all civilians. It’s a Parade fighting agains hate and upgraded laws. Hungary is not a religious state (as Israel, and that’s the reason for the parade to not happen in Jeusalem) so all civilians should have laws according to the population. And, yes, there are several gays in Hungary, they just need laws to provide them a normal life like any other hungarian. In this context the Parade is completely necessary.

I find it a little interesting that most of the commenters here talk about gays and their parade when the article is about the revision of the Trianon ‘treaty’ and throwing out the racist Benes decrees. The Trianon peace pact was forced on Hungary because of Hungary’s own treasonous ‘politicians’. The Hungarian military stood on FOREIGN LAND by the end of WWI. However, many wonderful ‘Hungarian’ politicians decided to dissolve the Hungarian military at that time. Once it was gone, the Romanians, The Czechs and the Serbians (whose military interestingly was not dissolved by some ‘social democrats’) marched into Hungary without any significant fight. Then the communists lead by Bela Kun took over Hungary and reorganized the military to defend their own power and to merge with the Russian communists on the Northeast. That is why they took back almost half of the Up-country (today’s Slovakia) during their reign. However, this Hungarian communist regime did not fit well for the ‘civilized’ Europe who thought that Hungarians were barbarians who ruled these other poor nations (Slovakians, Romanians and Serbians) by force for over a thousand years and the communist regime (who indeed was barbarian) was the last straw for the decisionmakers of Europe to slice off huge territories of Hungary and give them to each nation.
What initially Jobbik wants is to get Europe to recognize the issue of the Hungarian minority as a human rights issue and throw out the racist Benes decrees. Continued
The issues that the Hungarian minority has in Slovakia, Romania or Serbia or the Ukraine are not similar to the issues that Turkish or other Muslim or black immigrants have in France, Germany, Holland,the UK, etc. Those immigrants just came to those countries only a few years ago (20 years the most). The Hungarian minorities lived on those territories for over a THOUSAND YEARS. After the racist and shameful Benes decrees came into effect, literally, hundreds of thousands of Hungarians who were BORN there and their PARENTS and their GREAT-GREAT-GREAT-GREAT GRANDPARENTS were BORN there were forcefully displaced, and killed totally legally. NOT A SINGLE Hungarian politician raised objections in the European Parliament when they had a chance. These ‘Hungarian’ politicians should be investigated and tried for treason. Before the EU accepted Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, the member countries had a chance to object. Hungary should have objected and should have demanded the abolition of the racist Benes decrees that legalized the atrocities against Hungarians and it still legalizes them to this day. Hungary also should have objected and demanded Romania to allow autonomy for the Hungarian enclave right in its middle before letting Romania in the EU. Now that is what Jobbik wants. They want the abolition of the Benes decrees and the support the autonomy of Hungarian majority in these countries. If Kosovo can have it Hungarians can, too. So it is not about changing the borders.

Did the Soviets not, as the only of the Allied Forces, urge people to force ethnic Germans and all that could be associated with them and the Nazi-rule to be robbed, thrown out of the country or even be killed?
Did not the same fate happen to ethnic Germans in Hungary just after the war? Or even the Schwab minority?
The Benes Decrees were issued by the Czechoslovak government in exile in London and put in force by the new government right after the Soviet army occupied Czechoslovakia. Ethnic Germans were indeed thrown out of Hungary. From Romania Germans and Jews were in fact sold to their respective countries for hard currency by the communists until 1989. This did not change the fact that from the moment on since the Czechoslovak state came into existence, its main purpose was to cleanse itself from Hungarians and Germans AND gypsies. The EU does not know any of that because these countries’ media (owned by their nationalists) does not say a word about it and their politicians in the EU represent their own countries’ interests. Only Hungarian politicians were badmouthing their own country and totally ignoring their own taxpayers who pay them to be there in the first place. There was real change in the system in the Czech and Slovak Republics and even in Romania and Poland (not too long ago) where former communists and their kids now have much less influence on the current policies of their countries.
In Hungary the same former communist elite and their kids still rule the country and look at their own interest instead of the country and the people of Hungary.
Jobbik wants real change in the system from the bottom to the top and the recognition from the EU that Trianon was unjust punishment for Hungary. Besides words they want compensation and self government for Hungarian minorities.

I have no idea how you extrapolate to this conclusion. For a start it is a parade and not a demonstration. It’s a celebration not a complaint. It’s not about benefits or welfare.

The truth of the matter is that WWI was not ‘won’ by the Antant, but was lost by the Central Powers’ own corrupt and treasonous politicians. The opposition of these governments (many of them were communist leaning) fired up the general public and the military not to fight any more. Also around 1918 the Spanish flu, cholera and typhoid started to kill mass numbers of soldiers especially in the Central Powers’ armies. So it is not true that Hungary as a nation or its military actually ‘lost’ the war. There were many reasons and factors that eventually made them stop.
Remember that in 1916 the KUK marched into Bucharest without any significant effort and it was not until late 1918 when Romanians were able to get their country back and started to come to Transylvania in massive numbers. That was when Karolyi let Transylvania go even though he got many warnings from his generals in Transylvania that the Romanians were coming, but he instructed them to let them come in. Later he went to peace the negotiations to Paris dressed in hunting gear like a barbarian.
But besides all of this, the final straw for the Europeans was when the communist killers lead by Bela Kun and his buddies got into power on March 21, 1919 and ruled Hungary with the red terror for 133 days. During this time, mass executions and beatings of Hungarians took place. Eventually the regime collapsed and the Romanians took Budapest and that was the end.
These are facts and nobody is crying about anything

Hungary already paid back Germany (for displacing some of the German minority), Slovakia, Romania, the Soviet Union and Israel many times over for the damage supposedly done by Hungarian troops in these countries plus the atrocities committed against the Jews by the German’s puppet government. In my opinion, gays can pretty much have everything they want as long as they do their thing in the privacy of their own home. I am not sure that they should be role models in a family setting and they should definitely not march on the streets in a parade setting. That is too much information they give that the majority of the people do not want to know and do not care about.
My question is though could be interesting if anyone cares to answer. Why is this gay ‘issue’ so important or why is it made so important? Why is the gypsy ‘issue’ so important? Sounds the goose thief government artificially tries to distract the public from the real issues like what is going to happen with the Hungarian land, the water, the workers, the entrepreneurs? These are the real issues. To the extent that the ethnic-minorities-suppressing Benes decrees remain incorporated in Czech and Slovak laws, those laws are inconsistent with a whole battery of EU laws, not least of them the EC Article 13 Directive on Race. Jobbik will have no difficulty in seeing to their removal. You lay out the Jewish Kun gang’s atrocities in Hungary perfectly appropriately. There is also the question of their anti-Hungarian representatives (by then in American military uniform!) at Trianon. This will all be aired on the floor of the EP … by Jobbik, for the first time in EP history. No wonder all support of Jobbik elicits howls of rage from the Kun progeny in today’s Hungary. Godot, ditto for other places. My own very fine little southern English town did its annual Spring Festival: open-air music recitals, plays, stalls, and the inevitably parade of floats. That parade came to a brief halt while a group of townsmen, including the vicar, stopped the ‘gay’ float, required the arses-exposed riders of it to pack up their display items, then escorted them to the car park and into their vehicles. The whole operation was brief and drama free: just the pragmatic act of making sure that the pet that proves impossible to toilet train is not allowed the run of the house.

I am going to say something really wild: in my opinion many things that the Obama administration is doing in the US and the world and what in fact Jobbik wants to achieve has a common ground. And this common ground is justice for the small, average hard working people. I am sure many staunch Jobbik supporters would look at me if I was crazy and I am sure some Obama supporters would look at me if I was nuts, but all I am saying people, just open your eyes and think a little. People had enough of the corporate fascism and people just want to reap the rewards of their hard work and people do not want corporations to steal what is rightfully theirs.
What all this have anything to do with Trianon? A whole lot. Many people in Hungary want justice. Most people are realists and know that there is no way to restore the old borders. All they want is recognition and compensation and autonomy. Now, we know that most people still do not care because they are busy watching some Jerry Springer type Hungarian TV shows (which is OK every once in a while for entertainment) so they care less. The message needs to be delivered to them and this silent ‘slackers’ need to be ‘kicked’ a little bit to get up and do something. That is what Jobbik is trying to do. And when you notice, Obama hired whoever he hired, but the actions already speak for themselves. He was able to mobilize these ‘slackers’ with his positive massage even though the Bush/McCain people did/still do everything to discredit him.
Yeah, what the Obama administration and Jobbik are doing has a common ground which has to do with “justice for the small, average hard working people”. Taking this statement, I can tell you that Obama and Jobbik also apparently share a common ground with Hitler, Kim-Jong Il, Ayatollah Khomeini, etc. This is of course because you just gave one of the most general core values for populist leaders anywhere in the damn world! Obama has about as much to do with Jobbik’s ideology as Schwarzenegger does with Rubik’s Cube. Of course it would be nice to have recognition that what happened with Trianon was unfair, but you gotta remember, we also emerged on the losing side. How does one expect the victorious allies in the West to all of a sudden state that what they did to Hungary was unjustified, especially when they spent millions of lives to fight and defeat our alliance with Germany? It’ll never happen, it’s just more wishful thinking by Hungarians who are using any escape methods to stay away from dealing with every day realities on the ground. Same goes for the idea of compensation. As for autonomy, it’s a bit of a sticking point, because our neighbours are concerned about a Kosovo-style scenario, so it’ll probably never happen either. I don’t know what silent slackers you are referring to, but I know 3 million-plus people voted yes in favour of joining the EU, just an example of people turning out to make their voices heard.
The only silent slackers I can think of are the ones who are now donning Arrow Cross – whops, Magyar Gárda – uniforms at Heroes’ Square. Of course Jobbik will be able to mobilize all those people who are brainwashed into the old anti-immigrant, anti-Europe, anti-minority, anti-Trianon types who would otherwise sit and play Risk in each other’s basements while admiring the maps of pre-1920 Hungary, and other revisionist paraphenilia adorning the walls. Judas, the answer is simple: Jobbik wants to centre the EP’s attention on the horrible injustice done to Hungary at Trianon. I do not know what their agenda is, other than the part of it they have revealed: to see to it that the Benes decrees are cleaned out of the contemporary legislations of offending EU member states. Those legislations are unlawful under EU law, for they repress minorities. It is right and proper for Jobbik to fight for the interests of Hungarians in the EU member states where those repressive legislations are in place.

Judas, the English Jobbik site does a pretty poor translation job, and is often very ‘accented’ English. It does not manage to reproduce the pomp and flair of the Hungarian version. And, OK, there is a good bit of the rhetorical and the declarative even there. But that’s not more than you would expect from any party-political site. I see no power game, let alone a cheap one, but instead, triumphant nationalism.

The laws are not active, they are not used any more.
No Germans and others are deported from Czechoslovakia.
Therefore these decrees are not being used today to “repress minorities”, so no current EU law is being broken.
EU does not care what happened before it was formed, otherwise we Sweden will demand to have back all the Baltic States, Northern part of Poland and Germany, plus some more that we have forgotten.
