A senior Socialist Party official has called for a broad protest against anti-Semitic manifestations after a Holocaust memorial was vandalised in central Budapest early on Monday. On Monday morning, as yet unidentified persons placed pig’s trotters into the cast iron shoes constituting a monument on the embankment of the river Danube near Parliament, commemorating victims of Nazi terror shot into the river in 1944-45. MP Tamas Suchman called on individuals, political parties, public dignitaries and civil groups to stage a demonstration at the monument on Thursday evening.

I’m shooting this comment back to beju who so far has not presented any argument of substance whatsoever. I hate to generalize but people like this give us Hungarians the bad reputation we have overseas (besides our gorgeous women ofcourse). Now like you said, Israel may be a made up state (this is actually a fact), as it was established in 1948 with the agreeance of the victors of WWII. Historically, Israel was destroyed by the neighbouring kingdom of Judaea, which was later annexed by Rome, and then as we know the Romans kicked out the Jews (i.e. Judeaens, descendants of the tribe of Judah) and they scattered through Greece, Rome, working their way through Europe. However, as a Magyar who has bothered to study history from various perspectives and sources, I also know that Hungary was established by a bunch of nomad Magyars without an established original homeland. Even if you buy the theory that Ashkenazi Jews are “Khazars”, they are then even closer to the Magyars in terms of cultural origin, that the Hebrew Israelites ever will be. So either way, whether us Magyars “go back home” (as our neighbours would love for us to do) or the Jews do, we will probably still be interacting with one another either way! Even if you look at it from the Sunday school perspective (although I highly doubt any of you are regular church-goers by the lack of knowledge here), you will know our legendary ancestors Hunor and Magor were neighbours of the Semites. Just because I disagree with some of the blatantly outrageous comments coming from my fellow countrymen, it is an odd name for me all of a sudden. I am just as proud of my Hungarian heritage as any one of you and I visit regularly (I was actually in Budapest for two months this winter). However, the amounting of mud-slinging and scapegoating that goes on in HU has only managed to scare away a vast amount of intellectuals and intelligentsia who’ve moved to places like Australia, Canada, US, etc. Countries where you don’t have to put up with mud-slinging on the level of any country in Europe (Hungary being at the top). You don’t have to teach me about history, my professors and family have done enough of that, and even though their opinions vary (like my grandmother, staunchly on the nationalist end of the spectrum) that is their right. Pinning blame on minorities for the root of a country’s problems is not a solution, it just leads to more mistrust and drives more people away. Hungarians as a nation are responsible for the country’s pains and joys. Most of you probably have older family members who were staunch Communists, and now you bad-mouth their ideologies. Europe as a continent has too many traditional, historical, deep-rooted problems to solve overnight if ever. Jobbik has 5% support amongst the exact same electorate. Hungarians as EU citizens also have the ability to go work and live in many EU countries without any restrictions. Downside or upside? Go there, make money, come back, spend money = putting money into the national economy. Advancement in medicine has nothing to do with the help of globalism if anything it has slowed down progress. Massive medical fraud exposed: pharmaceutical company paid doctors to prescribe drugs and run sham clinical trials .
Here’s how it would works doctors prescribed the drug company’s products and avoided competing drugs were paid “consulting fees” of tens of thousands of dollars. And what kind of consulting did these doctors do? The kind of consulting that requires nothing more than signing a blank sheet of paper and cashing the check, of course. And thousands of doctors participated in this criminal scam, collecting untold sums of money in exchange for hyping Schering-Plough’s pharmaceuticals to patients. (Medical ethics, anyone?)
Doctors were paid even more money to conduct fraudulent clinical trials that would require patients to take the drugs for twelve months at a time, which of course rang up even more drug prfits for the manufacturer and resulted in more kickbacks to the doctors. That’s right: they’re literally playing doctor with your life while pocketing the drug money.
If all this sounds outrageous, think again: this is precisely the kind of criminal activity that now typifies the pharmaceutical industry and organized medicine in general.

I do not see that Doctors, especially in Hungary, works harder than other staff categories in the same hospital.
In Sweden a Doctor does not have 1-3 secretaries/nurses to his disposal. The Doctor meet the patient alone and update the journal directly via a computer system.
In Hungary a Doctor always have at least one staff that just sits there, prepare some papers and update the journal directly via a computer system.
If Hungarian Doctors were at all interested in improving their situation, they should change their work pattern and more money would be available.
They do not want that, they are happy with the pocket money the get, but loudly complaints to everyone that they want more money.

Around 400,000 of them were allegedly taken to labor camps. After the war many of them chose never to return, some stayed in Germany and Austria, some went to Israel and the USA and who knows where. A lot of them came back and still collecting “reparations” from Germany and Hungary. I’m not sure why are they entitled to that, do you? Why are we paying them more than 60 years after the war. They must be in good health if they lived this long. What makes them the only victims of WWII?
You know what, you are right my statistic is wrong there. Actually from the 1941 census we know that there were roughly 800,000-900,000 Hungarian Jews as a total population. After 1945 various surveys give 250,000-80,000 remaining. So suddenly, about 650,000+ Jewish Hungarians disappeared all of a sudden between 1941-1945. Between 1941-1944 Horthy also controlled the government in Hungary,and the Jewish population only decreased by about 30,000 which you can probably attributed to emigration amongst other more sinister things. However by the time Szálasi and later Eichmann took over business in 1944 and 1945, around 500,000 Jews disappeared and were deported to death camps (i.e. those places you call “labour camps”) or killed by Arrow Cross/Nazi forces in Hungary-proper. There were deliberate immigration policies in the USA and Canada by people like Breckinridge Long and William Lyon MacKenzie King that turned away refugee Jews fleeing Europe during the inter-war years. Between 1941-1945 it is estimated only 30,000 Jews arrived to the US each year…30,000×4 = 120,000 total. Where did your tolerance go when you start threatening some people on this forum with the Mosad? Nobody threatened you. People are sensitive, you know. When people say something that requires more research or make a point you disagree with, you just cannot simply oppress or silence them because that is a double standard. Sophie, she is called Deborah Lipstadt, and she is a respected historian and considered to be an authority on the subject. She speaks out against holocaust denial, and served as the holocaust advisor to the Clinton administration for 2 terms. Her arguments are pretty balanced, so much so that she protested against the imprisonment of David Irving – a man I am sure you are familiar with – on the grounds of protecting free speech.
Primo Levi was an educated man, in spite of the Italian regime of the time banning studies for Jews. In that particular book he is actually quite passive, and does not get into the story on an emotional level. He tells it in a very matter of fact way. He was certainly not a fraud. What I was actually trying to achieve by suggesting those books was for people to research the other side of the argument from another source – then make up your own mind. Have you read either of them cover to cover? And for the record, I am Irish – I have the passport and birth certificate to prove it. I don’t know where the inverted commas come into it.

Radnóti has left a harrowingly graphic account of his state of mind during his homeward journey from Croatia. He in fact made it back to northern Hungary, but in very poor health. He tells us that he knew he was on death’s door. A number of is fellow munkaszolgalatosok remained alive, and duly delivered, as he had asked them to, the scraps of note paper he wrote his last verses on. Now, why did the ‘nazis’ not put them to death too, as you say they had Radnóti? Why do you want to make ‘a self-hating jew’ of this exquisite sensibility who had held his finger so tenderly on the pulse of life?

In May 1944, the defeated Hungarians retreated and Radnóti’s labor battalion was assigned to the Bor, Serbia copper mines. In August 1944, as consequence of Tito’s advance, Radnóti’s group of 3200 Hungarian Jews was force-marched to Central Hungary, which very few reached alive. Radnóti was fated not to be among them. Throughout these last months of his life, he continued to write poems in a little notebook he kept with him. According to witnesses, in early November 1944, Radnóti was severely beaten by a drunken militiaman, who had been tormenting him for “scribbling”. Too weak to continue, he was shot into a mass grave near the village of Abda in Northwestern Hungary. Today, a statue next to the road commemorates his death on this spot.

I have heard many accounts of the war’s end-game from my grandfather and his circle of friends – gruesome things, like snap court-martials and executions of de-mobbed soldiers caught and declared deserters. Even if Radnóti was killed as this account has it, there is still no suggestion that he was killed because he was a Jew.
