Fidesz, MDF chiefs squabble over proposal for cooperation

Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán on Monday responded to a political proposal made by Democratic Forum chairwoman Ibolya Dávid that he “had never been in a situation where a woman had forced herself upon him like this”.

Dávid had suggested on Saturday that co-operation between Fidesz and the Forum is crucial in order to halt the continued rise of the far right, and Orbán quipped that “this is a new situation, I’ll have to get used to it.”

Dávid said in an open letter that Orbán had misunderstood something, as she is a politician, unavailable, and “particular when it comes to jokes”.

Poor Fidesz, they are so confused how they should handle Jobbik. Work with them or not. In the mean-time Jobbik wins on this internal Fidesz dispute.
Now it will be even harder for Orban to realise his ultimate dream:
    - One Country
    - One People
    - One Party
If Orban/Fidesz goes on like this more people will join/vote for MDF, especially if SZDSZ virtually disappears from the national scene.
Ibolya Dávid has for many years been in the top of most liked/trusted politicians in Hungary. Given a scene, she could be able to exploit on the expense of Orban/Fidesz.
The anti-Orban effect combined with the anti-Jobbik effect could start to benefit MDF instead of MSZP, which was the traditional beneficiary of those effects.

The violet (no shrinking one) not only propositioned him, but she then turned on him, petulant and jealous: Ön vajon Morvai Krisztinára, vagy rám, a Magyar Demokrata Fórum elnökére céloz akkor, amikor egy női politikussal összefogna? (Hirado). (Were you inclined to get together with a female politician, would you target Krisztina Morvai or me, the MDF chairwoman?) Oh, dear! Ibolya is a bit slow at coming to terms with brush-off.
Thank you, Mr Orbán. I cannot remember having found a politician screamingly funny ever before.

I forgot to post the Hirado link. This paper has published Ibolya David’s entire ‘you really ought to choose me’ letter:

The MDF proposal looks like the mouse offering help to the elephant in a fight against the cat.

True, Godot. But what fetches me is the wonderful comedy of this performance. This is so rare on any political scene, which makes the odd one so precious. I sometimes wonder if the protagonists do not secretly collude to bring off something like this. Certainly, neither Orbán nor Dávid came out of this one badly – on the contrary. The two hams are probably congratulating each other!
