Jobbik leader says party “inevitable third force” in Hungarian politics

The leader of the radical nationalist Jobbik said on Saturday that the party had grown into an “inevitable third force” in Hungary’s political arena as he greeted party supporters at a congress in Budapest.

Gabor Vona said the right-left division in politics was outdated and instead he offered to identify forces as pro or contra national.

Jobbik is a non-parliamentary party which recently polled 14.77 percent in the European elections, winning 3 out of 22 seats for Hungary.

Jobbik “will make it into parliament a few months from now,” Vona said. He added that the party would work to eliminate any laws that were “against national interests”.

Hungary’s next parliamentary elections are due in April next year, but the opposition and even some government groups have made calls for early elections.

    Good for Jobbik!
    It’s called politics.

  2. judas says:

    what might those laws be? Against “national interest”. Is vona now the one who decides what is
    “national interest”? ..and now i know already what
    will come… go ahead!

  3. Viking says:

    You will never see and hear any real proposal from Jobbik, just airy slogan BS.

  4. Godot says:

    You kids don’t even know what Jobbik wants, but you’re already busy opposing it. You two should get a room. Preferably in Tel Aviv or Kiruna or anywhere far away, safe from Jobbik.

  5. Viking says:

    Godot,
    No one knows what Jobbik wants, not even themselves.
    There are never any details, just great slogans that are constructed in such way they give maximum media coverage.
    They are basically just media whores.
    They will say anything to stay on top of the media circus.
    Instead of demanding more Police in the countryside, they demand something that is never ever described in detail how it will be built up, organised and actually both better and cheaper than hiring and training more Police Officers.
    But after the recent current serial rapist/murderer turned out not to be Roma. This despite the local Mayor and several Pro-Jobbik posts here claimed he must be. Some of them even claimed to know exact who it was. The Police was accused of only dragging their feet.
    Now we know why Jobbik want to have a less Police-trained military-styled force – they will not do this excellent Police work that caught this serial criminal, the Jobbik-variant is just to find other scape-goats.
    This will not decrease lawlessness and insecurity. Just the opposite, like the old Communist-time. If your parents were high in the Party, you could get away with murder, literally.

    Viking,
    You are such a gullible joke.
    Do you actually believe Jobbik doesn’t know what they want?
    Let me configurate it for you. A political movement and party launches itself into the political arena without the slightest idea of what’s coming at them in the process, have no idea how to deflect them and just levitate as an entity. Did you actually manage to climb down the human tree or just trying to climb out from under a rock?

    beju,
    “Do you actually believe Jobbik doesn’t know what they want?”
    Jobbik has grown very rapid the last 2 years.
    Their success in the EP election now puts a lot of expectations on them.
    They will also have a lot of new people coming in.
    This is the same problem any organisation have that grows fast, regardless it is a company or a political organisation.
    The idea of “patriotic nationalism” can be anything between Orban Viktor, over Horthy to Szalasi.
    Until Jobbik has a very detailed program, with financing (and a bit more to reality that just tax the ‘multis and jews’), there will just be populist slogans.
    Personally I do not expect Jobbik to come over that level for the foreseeable future, then defining real policies, means that you will be responsible and not all in the organisation wants to work for that specific policy. So from the current leadership, keep it on a simple slogan level, which means Jobbik can only be accused of things that makes it stronger, like:
    * anti-Roma,
    * anti-Jewish,
    * anti-Democratic,
    * anti-establishment,
    * anti-etc.
    All these anti-things will keep Jobbik growing as long as they never need actually take responsibility for anything.
    And when the financial situation is like it is, Jobbik can always push how better it was ‘before’, which in a strange way works positively for them.

    Why does the “third force” need a paramilitary army? To enforce its laws if its opponents don’t agree with its views and values? No, Mr. Jobbik. You do not have a unique handle on history. Privately controlled paramilitary armies have nothing but a bad record in history and fortell of big problems for a free and democratic society if Jobbik is as successful as it claims it will be. I do not support the crass way the current government have handled the economy and have serious doubts about the way the opposition will handle the situation when they get back into power. But for me, Jobbik is a worrying political development that should be of major concern to all Hungarians who believe that Hungary can be a truly democratic and wonderful country.

  9. Justice says:

    Magyar Garda are unarmed and volunteers

  10. Viking says:

    (In)Justice,
    Give them some kind of weapon and they are armed “volunteers”.
    In everything officially said about Magyar Garda from Jobbik training in weapons and being prepared for more duties have always been there.
    It is just a question of timing and control.
    Anyway, Viktor Orban has promised Hungary that when Fidesz comes back in power there is ‘no need for organisations like Magyar Garda’.
    So, we are waiting for the Puppet Master to throw away some of his puppets.

  11. Viking says:

    (In)Justice,
    Another question that I have asked before and never got an answer on -
    —-
    - What is the difference between PolgarÖr (neighbourhood watch) and Magyar Garda (except the military style outfit and behaviour of Magyar Garda)?
    —-
    But from the point of who organize them and who can join. Why does not Jobbik just work with the local people as persons and build ‘neighbourhood watch organisations’?
    Do we have another agenda here?

  12. Godot says:

    “Do we have another agenda here?”
    Sure we do. Stay in power as long as possible, steal as much as possible, leave the country in ruins for the next government. Try real hard to make the opposition look like pure evil, get some of the most gullible voters back.
    Sincerely,
    MSZP/SZDSZ

  13. Viking says:

    Godot,
    I think this thread is about Jobbik.
    I know it is hard for you to be inside so long, especially when you have not been potty-trained enough, but try to be a nice puppy and do not disturb the grown-ups.
    OK?

  14. Godot says:

    I know it’s difficult for you, Viking, to make the connection. Jobbik (with all its faults) is NOT MSZP/SZDSZ. It means that they are opposing the current regime, and promise to do the opposite of what’s ruined the country. Get it?

  15. Viking says:

    Godot,
    Are you only posting BS to get the attention from my question about why Jobbik cannot help building local PolgarÖr (neighbourhood watch) organizations
    Is that a sensitive question?

  16. Sophie says:

    Godot, wannabe Viking thinks he has asked you a profound and daunting question: ‘why Jobbik cannot help building local PolgarÖr’. Hadjuk hüjén meghalni? Or do you think it is worth calling his attention to what is obvious to anyone but a halfwit of his calibre: Jobbik is not looking to leaving rural policing to amateurs. It wants to establish the csendörség for the purpose.

  17. beju says:

    Csendorseg, which this country badly needs however will only work effectively, once prominent figures of the so-called “socialist-liberal” coalition are imprisoned with harsh sentences imposed upon them. I’d welcome the newly formed Csendorseg off the bat to act as their guardians in the slammer.
