Bajnai slams Slovak language act

The new language act approved by Slovak parliament seriously harms ethnic Hungarians in Slovakia and Slovak-Hungarian relations as a whole, Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai said on Wednesday.

Slovakia’s language act goes against by the letter and also the spirit of the basic treaty between Hungary and Slovakia and several other international treaties, Bajnai said.

Depending on further developments, it should be reconsidered if and when the planned bilateral prime ministerial meeting should take place and what subjects should be covered, he added.
