Government proposes own network of volunteer "guards"

The ruling Socialists are proposing to set up a network of guards serving in the countryside, national daily Nepszabadsag said on Wednesday.

The plan, which the party leaders will put forward to the Socialists' Saturday congress for discussion, is aimed at minimising crimes in towns and villages, thereby improving the residents' perception of public safety.

The local guards would serve under the control and on the payroll of municipal councils and would have certain law enforcement powers.

The plan was prompted by public safety concerns in the countryside, a factor that enabled the radical nationalist Jobbik party to fare well in the June 7 European parliamentary election.

The main opposition Fidesz party criticised the idea of assigning law enforcement tasks to volunteer groups or organisations instead of strengthening the national police.

Deputy spokesman Andras Cser-Palkovics said that once in power, Fidesz would beef up the police force with thousands of new recruits, and initiate stricter laws for punishing the perpetrators of violent crimes and recidivists.

Pathetic socialist-liberals can never come up with anything original,we have been telling them for years about the problems and they totally ignored it,now they try to ban the Magyar Gárda after Jobbik's stunning success and create a replica 'vörös gárda'.
Total losers with no real idea or strategy, only cheating, thieving and now copying.

That's all they know. How are you going to teach a dodo to fly?
Worse, that this group of zionist thieves are still occupying the Hungarian parliament. I guess we do need a second Mohacs before these crooks are finally and deservedly lined up against the wall.

beju: Will you be here fighting for Hungary, or hiding out over there in Cleveland? ;)

Erik,
Could you repeat the question?
Would the insinuation be Cleveland New South Wales or Cleveland British Columbia? It makes a big difference you know.
If you were referring to Cleveland Ohio, I have visited the place, wouldn't recommend it though.
Please elaborate.

Fidesz has my vote on this one.
Why is Jobbik against more normal Police Officers?
