Attila Retkes, newly elected head of Hungary’s Free Democrats on Sunday called on parliamentary group leader Janos Koka to leave his post without delay.
The majority of delegates at Sunday’s meeting expressed support for his proposal.
Koka said he would not step down from his post, stating that the party is on the verge of extinction and the parliamentary group is its only functional body. Crisis management must continue, he added.
Retkes said over the past year, the narrow majority in the parliamentary group was a “state within the state” and this has caused immeasurable damages to the party.
Retkes said he wanted the party to promote liberalism and patriotism at the same time. He said it was a great mistake that the party neglected Hungarians outside Budapest.
“The new Free Democrats should be a party for independent, responsibly thinking and freedom-loving citizens who bravely take responsibility for themselves, their families and their environment, pursue the principles of self-reliance, are moderate, free of extremities, honest and democratic, ” Retkes said.
I would recommend Rafael Szutykos to replace Koka.
