First NATO cargo jet expected at Hungarian airbase

The first US-made C-17 military cargo jet is expected to arrive in Hungary within two weeks under NATO’s Strategic Airlift Capability (SAC) programme, national daily Magyar Nemzet said on Wednesday.

The Boeing C-17 with the Hungarian national tricolour and military marks painted on it is planned to land on July 27 at the NATO air base near the west Hungarian town of Papa.

The arrival ceremony is to be attended by representatives of the 12 countries that participate in the SAC programme.

This first of the three C-17 jets to be stationed at Papa was presented to NATO’s Heavy Air Wing (HAW) unit at the Boeing plant at California’s Long Beach on Tuesday.
