Hungarian neo-Nazi groups plan to hold an international march and concerts in Budapest on August 15 to commemorate the death anniversary of Hitler’s deputy, Rudolf Hess, Nepszabadsag daily said on Monday.
The Hungarian National Socialist Front (NS Front) and the “Hungarists” (followers of the Hungarian collaborators with German Nazi rule) will disclose the venue for the events only two days in advance, the paper said.
Organisers expect foreigners to attend the march, which they have advertised on the Internet in English and German, too. Neo-Nazi organisations in countries where such an event would be banned are especially likely to take interest, the paper said.
On the same day, some 50 Hungarian and international civil organisations will hold an anti-fascist protest, which they called “an international peaceful demonstration against the far right,” in a downtown square.
The demonstration will have an anti-fascist, humanist and anti-racist message, one of the organisers, Andrea Alfoldi told MTI.
Chairman of a Hungarian anti-fascist organisation, Vilmos Hanti urged dignitaries, politicians and public figures to attend the demonstration.

If this is true, then this demo will probably be illegal, then it is hardly foreseeable that anyone can get permission to have a ‘counter-demo’ 2-3 days before.
If the demo is ‘illegal’ then the machine will come down on it hard, also given the probability that only a few hundred hard-core under-aged boys will participate.
In all it will be a good exercise for the riot-police. Their biggest problem will probably be to keep the ‘anti-demo’ out of hitting distance.

Rufolf Hess was not executed at Nuremberg he was kept in Spandau Jail in some comfort -Including visits from his son and a nice garden to walk in- until as Sophist says he died. You mentioned the bit about how Fidesz raised the point of how this wasn’t a problem during their time in government. As far as I know that’s the case. I’m no Fidesz supporter, and while I still shrug off suggestions that MSZP is behind the neo-Nazi stuff, I’m increasingly of the opinion that they’re allowing this stuff to take place, solely for the purpose of saying “but there’s a far-right we have to fear”, very much along the lines of how Blair/Bush would raise the terror threat whenever their poll numbers took a hit, which was often.
This march of folly certainly doesn’t benefit Fidesz, but it does MSZP in their claim to be “fighting all those fascists.” And yes, they’re out there, but not nearly as many or as powerful as the MSZP would love us to believe, one fine example being the Draskovics video gaffe.
@Someone Else: Fidesz consider freedom of expression to extend to personal assault (throwing objects at politicians and anyone you don’t agree with), then encourage people to believe that democracy isn’t expressed through the constitutional instruments of the parliament or its laws. That the only legitimate government exists beyond the legally elected government, but through ongoing demonstrations and civil unrest. They distance themselves from outright condemnation of extremism until it is obvious that this is now another player in the game that is better at it than them, talks in more direct and simpler language (none of Orbáns banal poetics) and is now only likely to be taking votes and popularity from them rather than the opposition.
But that said, you are right. This is probably payback time for Fidesz for all the trouble they stirred up. Jobbik is their little abortion. You correctly point out that the British invented the concentration camp and use the term war criminals for those British involved (although I think that the specific reference to Winston Churhchill is a potentially a bit inaccurate). I totally agree that the British should be held responsible for their imperialist plunderings, involvement in slavery and so on. However, I do take issue with you labelling the British as war criminals whilst you wish to celebrate prominent Nazis who undoubtedly had a hand in the operation of Nazi concentration camps. Is this not double standards?

Thank you for your clear answer. What I seem to understand from your response is that you take issue with goverments and individuals not accepting responsibility for their roles within history. For example, Turkey still deny the genocide of Armenians, the Russians believe they have the moral high ground in Chechnya, the French have forgotton about the Vichy collaborators, the US has yet to close Guantnamo and comdemn their use of atomic weapons against Japan in WWII, how they installed Sadaam in Iraq etc etc etc. There are countless genocides and atrocities all over the world, none of which have advanced the cause of the human race. I am glad that you share the view that each should accept responsibilty for the consequences of their own atrocities, yet we know that they dont. What concerns me though, is that when we do have a verifiable event, verified by historians, witnesses, victims and perpatrators, such as the holocaust, you describe it as a myth. Surely you cannot pick and chose which bit of history you want to believe. I agree that the holocaust gets massive coverage, but that is because it was a European event and it effects our population. I am sure if you go to Rawanda it is not mentioned that often. The holocaust was not a myth and its effects are still felt even now. I admit the Isreali goverment are not angels by a very long way, but that doesnt wipe out the crimes against Jews of the past. As I said, we are all equally responsible for our atrocities.
