President László Sólyom is shocked by reports that fascist groups from Hungary and elsewhere plan to honour the anniversary of the death of convicted Nazi war criminal Rudolf Hess, his office told MTI on Tuesday.
Sólyom said it is his “resolute stance” that no neo-Nazi programmes are wanted in Hungary, adding that he trusts the Hungarian general public will reject Saturday’s public celebration of a war criminal, and Nazism.
Hungarian fascist group NS, which is organising the event, will announce its location on Thursday. The Socialist Party on Tuesday asked the police to outlaw the neo-Nazi gathering, MP Gergely Bárándy said.
Budapest Police spokeswoman Éva Tafferner told website hirszerzo.hu that police will issue an official position on the matter on Wednesday. According to Magyar Nemzet, police will ban the march.
