Hungary’s main opposition Fidesz party, way ahead in polling surveys and preparing for government after the spring 2010 elections, has a blueprint for its cabinet, Magyar Nemzet daily reported on Friday.
Viktor Orban’s cabinet is expected to include a lot of former ministers from the Fidesz party’s first term (1998-2002), said the paper, which is close to the conservative party.
Citing sources close to Fidesz, Magyar Nemzet said that Mihaly Varga will again be the finance minister, Janos Martonyi will resume his former post as foreign minister and current parliamentary group leader Tibor Navracsics is to head the office of the prime minister.
Gyorgy Matolcsy is pencilled in to head the economy ministry again while Zoltan Pokorni is expected to take the helm of the education ministry. Sandor Pinter is likely to become minister of the interior once again, said the paper.
A decision has not yet been taken on how to prioritise or structure the ministries. Earlier Fidesz had planned to create a ministerial “super-structure” revolving around several key ministries. People close to the decision told the paper that discussions revolved around how powerful the prime minister’s office should be.
