Resignation of District major VIII linked to Corvin Promenade deal

Eighth District independent mayor Béla Csécsei’s resignation from the local council was accepted by its other members yesterday. He had held the post since February 1993.

Csécsei, who quit the Free Democrats after Attila Retkes was elected party chairman in July, explained his resignation as due to deteriorating health. He will pass on his authority to the deputy mayor within eight days. By-elections must be staged within four months.

Csécsei fell victim to the strong men of the Free Democrats, who had been working to get him out for months, Magyar Hírlap reports.

The district authority could have a shortfall of Ft 3 billion revenues from the Corvin Promenade property development, as shown by an audit into its own company Rév 8, which is managing the project. The report was made public by Csécsei on Tuesday, his last act before resigning the following day.

Both the local authority and Rév 8 will have to explain why the buildings transferred to the Futureal group – which is owned by entrepreneur Péter Futó – were not valued, Magyar Hírlap adds. The properties were transferred to Futureal at half their market value, according to the daily.

Béla Csécsei, the corrupt animal and ex mayor. I received a phone call from Gallup at home and they asked me 9 questions about the 8th District.
One of the questions was: ‘Did I know that Béla Csécsei had resigned due to poor health?’
    LMAO :-)
