Proceedings have been launched against the banned paramilitary Hungarian Guard who held a family event over the weekend in Kerepes, just north of Budapest, Monday’s Nepszava daily reported.
Some 500 people attended the event held on private grounds and police initiated proceedings against 17 participants, some of whom had been wearing the banned organisation’s uniform, a black attire, the paper said, citing an official police website. The event was ended, it added.
Kerepes was the site of the first anti-Roma marches held by the Hungarian Guard in December 2007 and February 2008. The town is a potential hotspot of tension between the Roma and non-Roma communities.
A Budapest court upheld a ban on the Hungarian Guard this summer.
