Survey finds 70% of Hungarians concerned about political extremism

Seventy percent of Hungarians consider extremism a dangerous phenomenon while nearly a quarter think the opposite, a recent survey carried by Tuesday’s national daily Nepszabadsag showed.

The survey was conducted by Progressziv and Publicus institutes on a sample of 3,500.

Half of respondents said that there was a party in Hungary which represented extremist views and 68 percent named the radical nationalist Jobbik as such a party in first place.

Half of the sample believed that Jobbik would win parliamentary seats in the 2010 general elections. Forty four percent would be unhappy to see it in Parliament while 30 percent would welcome the development.

Forty three percent of those asked said they believed that, once in Parliament, Jobbik would likely be an opposition party, whereas 28 percent believe that it would likely become part of Hungary’s next government.

Asked to qualify Jobbik, the supporters of the party itself and of Fidesz almost unanimously used the attribute “tough” while voters of the ruling Socialist party mainly referred to the party as “extremist”.

The survey also showed that merely one in ten respondents believes that Jobbik is tacitly supported by the ruling Socialists with the aim of weakening Fidesz, their main rival, while 55 percent ruled out this scenario altogether.

How could I possibly have guessed I’d see the Progressziv Intézet’s grubby fingerprints all over this story as soon as I saw the headline? One wonders what on earth these failed Socialist academics would actually be doing with their time… if it wasn’t for Jobbik.

Nothing, but keeping on raping/pillaging/selling Hungary.

Well, if you do not believe in this survey, then you of course do not believe in the conclusion that:
    - “merely one in ten respondents believes that Jobbik is tacitly supported by the ruling Socialists with the aim of weakening Fidesz, their main rival, while 55 percent ruled out this scenario altogether”
The conclusion must then be that “Jobbik is tacitly supported by the ruling Socialists with the aim of weakening Fidesz”.
Bob and Bob, just old “Socialists” working hard for their old comrades.
