New Hungarian ambassador to US arrives in Washington

Hungary’s new ambassador to Washington Bela Szombati has accepted his posting, the embassy told MTI on Tuesday.

Szombati, 54, who arrived in the US capital last night, said in a message on the embassy’s website that he would strive to elevate strong Hungarian-US relations. He said that he counted on the support of American Hungarians in the deepening of friendly bilateral relations.

Szombati, a career diplomat who has previously held the posts of Hungary’s ambassador to London and Paris, is taking over from Ferenc Somogyi, who headed Hungary’s diplomatic mission in Washington between August 2007 and July 2009.
