Politicians’ unpopularity slightly eases in new poll

The unpopularity of Hungary’s politicians has eased slightly, suggesting that voters might be willing to give them one last chance at the start of the autumn cycle, daily Nepszabadsag said on Friday, quoting a Szonda Ipsos poll.

But the order of politicians on the list is unchanged, with President Laszlo Solyom in the lead, followed by opposition leader Viktor Orban and former parliamentary speaker, of the governing Socialists, Katalin Szili. Still, all are have negative ratings.

The poll carried out in September puts Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai among the least popular politicians in spite of the fact that he scores the highest among Socialist supporters. Bajnai has said he will retire from politics after the spring parliamentary elections next year.
