The Central District Court of Budapest, acting as a court of first instance, on Friday handed out prison sentences to six people involved in the siege of the headquarters of Hungarian Television (MTV) in central Budapest three years ago.
One defendant was sentenced to three years in prison and another to two years. The other four defendants got suspended prison terms ranging from one to two years.
All of them were found guilty of having disturbed the operation of a public service organisation and of other crimes. Most of the accused appealed against the verdict.
On the night of September 18-19, 2006, a group of protesters demanding the resignation of then Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany wanted to disclose their petition through public television. They stormed MTV headquarters, and set fire to the building. Altogether 191 policemen defending the building were injured, 21 of them seriously.
Previously, about one dozen people got suspended prison terms for their involvement in the siege. Criminal procedures against 20 people are still under way.

Finally justice comes.
Just a pity it took 3 years.
when do the criminal procedures against Gyurcsany and his friends start?
When you have made a Police Report, so the Prosecutors can start to work with it.
Its surprising that nobody noticed the scandal hapened in tyhe Hungarian justice. A huge judiciary farce, representatives of fighters for the freedom who were imprisoned by brutal police force of a socialist regime, and all seems to be so quiet. It is a shame for the public and for politicians that nothing was heard these days. Those people imprisoned are real heroes for Hungary, and somebody has to do very quickly for them. All this shows again that Hungary is down on her knees before all kind of foreigners who “want the best for her” and “know better”. All this is a farce and made me sick.
People love to see economic criminals whose thieving has impoverished a nation bite the dust of the national courts. Most of us enjoy the sight of Khodorkovsky, who has become used to prison food, getting his comeuppance. But even Putin really got only this one chap. The others all made off with their loot, or are still in situ. I wonder how much scope Fidész will have for prosecuting the major thieves, and making them cough up? My awful feeling is that they will all have vamoosed. Still, a few scalps would be nice, or even just one. Gyurcsány’s would be perfect. Any other suggestions, anyone?
On another thread, klimax pointed out that the present rotten government is still punishing some of the people who dared to confront it. So how about a good lot of small fry too, Fidész, on the scaffold of the law courts, just for the fun? It will be a good side-show, while you get on with the real work.
