Bajnai says Socialists to eventually benefit from unpopular economic measures

In the short term the government’s anti-crisis measures may make the Socialist Party unpopular, but they will increase the party’s credibility, Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai said in Budapest on Wednesday.

Speaking at a celebration marking the minority governing party’s 20th anniversary, Bajnai said that the past eighteen months had seen a series of measures that had helped Hungary overcome the crisis. These achievements, he said, should be credited to the Socialist Party, too.

Party leader Ildiko Lendvai said in her address that the country would be poorer without the 12 years during which it was governed by Socialist-led cabinets.

“Those who do not celebrate their birthday and do not identify with their past, will build their future on marshland. We must not deny the past twenty years, the dismantling of the Iron Curtain, Hungary’s NATO and European Union entry, all the roads and houses the country has built,” she said.

@Ricsi: Use a disposable email address if you are really concerned. I often use mailinator (as a spam buffer, linked to gmail to wash the email through their spam filters and then onwards…): http://mailinator.com/ but there are lots of others. Use once, then throw it away.
