Hungarian political parties should agree on adopting more transparent campaign-financing rules, two international NGOs said on Thursday.
Freedom House Europe and Transparency International held a joint news conference to urge the ruling Socialists and main opposition Fidesz to create legislation which incorporates elements of both parties’ proposals to clean up campaign financing.
One of the biggest obstacles in the way of improving Hungary’s international corruption ranking is the impasse on finding a solution to murky political financing in the country, the organisations said.
They added that it would be irresponsible to avoid doing so in the run-up to the 2010 parliamentary elections.
