MEPs representing Fidesz and Jobbik have been the most active from among Hungary’s 22 delegates in Brussels, according to Policy Solutions, a Budapest-based think-tank.
Assessing the work of Hungarian MEPs in September, the think-tank said main opposition Fidesz deputies had done the most serious policy work, while an MEP of the radical nationalist party Jobbik had made the most statements to the EP assembly.
Krisztina Morvai addressed the assembly on nine occasions on the widest range of subjects, according to Policy Solutions. Fidesz’s Csaba Ory and Gyorgy Schopflin engaged in difficult and substantive policy areas, including amendments to the EU budget, it noted.
Socialist MEPs have been generally low-key with Kinga Goncz, a former foreign minister, engaged in highlighting the dangers of the far right in Hungary and campaigning for the visa-free status of Western Balkan countries.
Lajos Bokros, the sole Democratic Forum member, has not so far shown “any kind of officially documented activity” in Brussels, said the think-tank.
