Hungary’s new Green party, Politics Can Be Different (LMP), rules out any electoral alliance with the current parliamentary parties or those with a chance to enter Parliament next year, LMP leader Andras Schiffer told MTI.
“We did not form a party to keep any party in, or help any party to, power,” he said.
Founded a year ago, LMP fared surprisingly well in the June European parliamentary elections, finishing in fifth place with 2.6 percent of votes.
The Greens aim to become a parliamentary party in 2010 and come to power as a dominant force four years later, said Schiffer.
Once in Parliament, LMP will fight for restoring the prestige of democratic rule of law and the credit of politics, he said.
In the party’s vision, Hungary should become a sustainable society, a sustainable country based on the participation of its citizens.
The latest polls showed that LMP would garner 2 percent of votes, well below the 5 percent required to have seats in Parliament.
