Gyurcsány, other leading Socialists face questioning in Zuschlag fraud case

A court has ordered the questioning of former prime minister Ferenc Gyurcsány, Socialist caucus leader Attila Mesterházy, former secret services minister György Szilvásy and three lesser-known politicians as suspects in the Zuschlag fraud case.

The Bács county prosecutor has pressed charges against Zuschlag and 15 associates on suspicion of fraud and other crimes regarding the unlawful acquisition of Ft 75 million in state subsidies.

Zuschlag is accused of illegally funnelling state funds to Socialist groups in southern Hungary in 2003-04.

Judge Endre Fodor said it is justified to question the above three persons, as they may have been aware of the crime under investigation or at least part of it. The questioning will take place in November.
Gyurcsány has already been questioned as a witness.
