Esztergom mayor alleges assassination plot, claims Socialist involvement

Esztergom’s mayor Tamás Meggyes claimed on Friday that unidentified people riding motorcycles and carrying automatic pistols intended to assassinate him.

Speaking at a rally organised in favour of him the Fidesz MP said the assailants are “paid by the Socialist Party”.

Meggyes said police had approached him in late August and told him that a group plan to have an assassin shoot him down with a Scorpio gun while riding a motorcycle.

Some 1,000 people took part in the demonstration, at which city employees had been told by the city administrator to attend. A recent demonstration against Meggyes had been organised by the Democratic Forum.

Esztergom police spokeswoman Gabriella Léber told Népszabadság that an investigation is ongoing into preparations to carry out a murder. She said police will not divulge any more details for the sake of the investigation.

    Assaination attempts, fraud, corruption, slander…is it me or does Magyar politics come across as some B rated Hollywood film somedays.

    Yet another Fidesz MP and Mayor who has not forgotten the good old Kadar-time, when it was totally normal to order people to demonstrate.

    And anyone wonder why some one would like to kill him?
    He has a lot of details on his own assassination:
    “an assassin shoot him down with a Scorpio gun while riding a motorcycle”
    What would happen if the assassin would use the more easy to come over weapon – AK47?
