Over 500 people gathered on the main square of Edeleny, a town in northern Hungary, on Tuesday for a demonstration organised by the local branch of main conservative opposition Fidesz in support of Oszkar Molnar, the controversial mayor and Fidesz MP who has faced strong censure for recent anti-Roma and anti-Semitic remarks.
Addressing the crowd, Molnar said, "we have to live in a country in which the Socialists, the Free Democrats and the left-liberal media want to execute, crucify or quarter an MP who is brave to pronounce on problems that are bothering a considerable part of Hungarian society every day."
Molnar earlier told a local television channel in an interview that he preferred "Hungarian interests to global capital -- Jewish capital if you like -- which wants to devour the whole world, especially Hungary."
He also sparked anger when he claimed that pregnant Roma women in his town harmed their unborn babies in order to get higher family allowances.
The demonstration, held amid a massive police presence, was addressed by Tibor Glonczi, a representative of the Roma minority, who blamed the government for "having ruined the country".
This mayor is a shame for Hungary.
He also said that in Israel most of the people lean hungarian in schools because they intend to emigrate to Hungary, come on this is a loonie things to say
A shame really? 500 people came out publicly to defend him? I don't think so....besides, what he tells is the truth or most of it....
Are there that many sickos in his area to come to defend his weird ideas? What a shame and a blight on Hungary!
No shame on you, lefties are crapping their pants now, the people are reclaiming their country.
Oh Candi, there you go again. You're so silly.
Molnars comments:
a)about the gypsy women beating their wombs...
b)israelis learn hungarian language at school...
c)Hungarians are ethnically superior ......
d)Hungarian language was first....
e)jewish capital etc....
One reads and hears this stuff from an fidesz major and MP and feels sorry for the archaic
psycological level this man reached. Is he still
at a pre-conventional stage?or even before that?
or simply sick?
More worrying however is the Orban reaction,or better the non reaction?Much better, straight and
clear minded the reaction of the fidesz youth movement who expelled from their rows a guy
for similar remarks.
Mr.Molnar quotes a haaretz newspaper report with
respect to the hungarian language taught at "al-quds" schools. (al-quds is the arab word for jerusalem).Actually the haaretz article is quoting
a hungarian right wing site who spread these non-sense.
The israeli school curriculum has not yet discovered the importance of learning hungarian.
on second thought however i think it might be an
tempting idea.If the "jewish capital worldwide" would converse in hungarian it might lead to world domination.....
Not that I agree with nutty Mr Molnár... but given recent developments. When can we expect to hear the Helsink Committee saying that despite the fact that what these demonstrators were doing is not illegal, the fact that they chose to exercise their right to free assembly... is illegal in and of itself... and therefore they may now be clobbered by the police...
Oh silly me! This is rural Hungary... There are no cops!
there is nothing more frightening than active
ignorance.
@Judas
Nice summary -
The first time I heard of Mr. Molnar concerned his allegations about the Roma women hurting their unborn babies so they can get more government funding for disabled children.
I could not believe that a Mayor would be able to make unsubstantiated allegations and live to see the next day as a public official. Then of course his allegations became more and more bizarre.
Nothing he said could shock me as much as learning that a Mayor could be immune from prosecution - what other crimes can they be unaccountable for? Is there a list?
My fertile imagination thinks of Mr. Molnar having no formal education - no fault of his own just did not get a chance to go to school due to having to work on the family farm ( My Mother-in-law was like that but she turned out to be really smart and a champion for kids' higher education) Anyway, Mr. M discovered that by spewing hate in a small ignorant small town will get you a position of power.
First time he said something ugly about the Roma, while drunk in a kocsma, some jackass said" " Hey Jozsi, (or whatever his name is) you should run for public office. You can say whatever the f.. you want and no one can come after you" The rest is history
I did say I only imagined this
they chose to exercise their right to free assembly... is illegal in and of itself... and therefore they may now be clobbered by the police...
Oh silly me! This is rural Hungary... There are no cops!
