The small conservative opposition Democratic Party is not planning to cooperate with the liberal Free Democrats at next year’s general elections, party leader Ibolya David told daily Nepszabadsag on Tuesday.
David said there was no party in Hungary today whose behaviour, values and programme would make it a suitable partner for the Democratic Forum at the elections.
Asked whether the Democratic Forum was preparing for a coalition with main opposition Fidesz, David said “this is currently an equation in at least three variables: we do not know what the voters want, what Fidesz’s programme is and with whom they would want to form the government.”
A coalition is always the result of voters’ demand, David said. Political plans are taken into consideration first, followed by the conditions of cooperation set by each partner and after that, a joint action plan needs to be prepared,” she added. On the basis of the above, the answer to the question about possible coalition is that “it is currently not a timely issue,” she added.
