Attila Mesterházy has a good chance of being the Socialist candidate for prime minister in next year’s elections, party sources told hirszerzo.hu.
His name first cropped up early last summer. Other potential nominees have been discussed but all have faded away for one reason or another, with the exceptions of Mesterházy and EU Commissioner László Kovács. Of the two, Mesterházy reportedly has greater support within the party.
The party will formally choose a candidate at its December 12 convention.

If they are really clever they should try to get Molnár to be there candidate. Ha ha ha ha
It is FACT any party who has Oszki bácsi can not lose!
This why Fidesz will win!! Because EVERYBODY KNOWS HE SAYS THE TRUTH!!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ZYADkVrb4g
No mater how we try and fix the mess over in that part of the world. Western nations don’t stand a chance. It is like oil and water that do not mix, no way no how. Tribal mentality over there is hundred and thousands of years old. We cannot democratize or Westernize countries like Hungary that are so strongly rooted in the past. Its time to wake up to some harsh realities about this situation!
Oszkar Molnar is a walking joke, and that video should just prove it to everybody’s satisfaction. Why on earth the international community hasn’t demanded that Orbán kicks him out is a mystery!
Is racism, anti-semitism and bigotry in Hungary excusable if you just happen to belong to the “right” party i.e. Fidesz?
How can we expect them to take a stand against extremism after the elections if they point blank REFUSE to take a stand (with a wink that says, the ends justify the means – just be patient) before it?
Where is all the well placed outrage of Die Welt, the Washington Post and the London Times?
Or are they so stupid as to only understand a danger if it conveniently comes in a uniform, waves a flag, and stands no chance of getting into power?
So right!
We only want our Jewish Communist mass murderer brothers and sisters in the Hungarian government.
If we could only raise Comrades Rakosi and Bauer, we could end all this nonsense and declare Hungary part of Greater Israel or Gaza II.
@ However
This is more of a question than a comment.
I don’t think Oszkar is a “joke” in his catchment area. Anymore than Rush Limbaugh is a joke to the wingnuts in the USA.
I don’t understand Hungarian election laws so this is the question: Is it possible FIDESZ is afraid of getting rid of him because he will run as a candidate for the JOBBIK party and his area is perfect for that mentality. Therefore, FIDESZ is afraid to lose a seat?
@olga
I agree with you completely that this is probably Fidesz’s rationale.
But my point is this, if a political party, sure of a SIXTY PLUS PERCENT lead (by Orban’s admission at the EP elections, the largest lead in European history) cannot be reasonably expected – despite the total certainty of a supermajority – to take a stand against extremism… what party possibly could?
Of course fringe nutcases like Molar will always come out with trash, the point is that you don’t have to put up with them if you are strong and guaranteed of success only if you are weak and sure of failure.
As I said if Fidesz don’t have the guts to kick him out before the vote, they never will after. And it says something VERY worrying about Fidesz’s TRUE nature if they don’t and it looks certain they won’t.
Which is why I am disgusted most of all by the international community, who should be demanding Orban makes an example of him.
@Bernie etc.
Oh yes, ha ha, how ironic.
Only someone terrified of having Jewish blood somewhere in their family could possibly be such an anti-Semite as you.
Tell me, is it your father’s or your mother’s side?
Nice try also in trying to put space between readers and that link, so everybody would be prevented from seeing what jokers like you ACTUALLY believe. No chance. Why aren’t you publicising it most of all? Eh? Because you know deep down how much of an idiot you’d look if more people knew this rubbish:

Mazel tov!
@ However
I completely agree with your analysis
However, after “studying” Hungarian politics throrugh this website since the beginning of September, I also learned that FIDESZ is just another of the “hold your nose and vote anything but JOBBIK” party. For those who are not apathetic that is.
I just posted on another thread wondering why Hungary can’t find its own “Obama” – and outlined my reasons for the question.
I am also starting to believe that “Bernie” is on a rotation basis. When one “Bernie” disappears another one follows immediately. Same old boring shit, nothing even vaguely new
@However
Us Jews should stick together, steal everything the Hungarian have, and pile enough debt on them to force them to sell us their land for peanuts
Anyone who objects, we call them Jew haters, anti-Semites and Nazis
@olga
) is a real shame.
An Obama! How wonderful that would be. But doesn’t it make you sad that the idea of Hungary having a Roma Prime Minister…
(And why not! You’d think these people would prefer anyone to a Jew! Obviously they don’t. So if you reflect on it the likes of Bernie aren’t even proper anti-Semites. They’re just bigots, Nazi hate mongers pure and simple)
…seems a million million miles away?
Have you seen this?
http://esbalogh.typepad.com/hungarianspectrum/2009/11/two-hungarian-interviews-viktor-orb%C3%A1n-on-the-campaign-trail.html
This person seems very perceptive, how wonderful to see a Hungarian who thinks being a liberal isn’t something you need to apologise for.
I think it’s a valuable insight into how unsavoury a character this Orban really is.
And I repeat, the fact the the international community isn’t taking him to task over this Molnar affair (Molnargate? If we’re going with the US theme…
@Rabbi Bernie
Who wouldn’t be proud to be part of the oldest continuous culture in human history? Only a bigot. I should be so lucky, but I’m not.
Mark Twain said something all bigots like you should read.
“If the statistics are right, the Jews constitute but one percent of the human race. It suggests a nebulous dim puff of star dust lost in the blaze of the Milky Way. Properly the Jew ought hardly to be heard of, but he is heard of, has always been heard of. He is as prominent on the planet as any other people, and his commercial importance is extravagantly out of proportion to the smallness of his bulk. His contributions to the world’s list of great names in literature, science, art, music, finance, medicine, and abstruse learning are also away out of proportion to the weakness of his numbers. He has made a marvellous fight in the world, in all the ages; and has done it with his hands tied behind him. He could be vain of himself, and be excused for it. The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose, filled the planet with sound and splendor, then faded to dream-stuff and passed away; the Greek and the Roman followed, and made a vast noise, and they are gone; other peoples have sprung up and held their torch high for a time, but it burned out, and they sit in twilight now, or have vanished. The Jew saw them all, beat them all, and is now what he always was, exhibiting no decadence, no infirmities of age, no weakening of his parts, no slowing of his energies.” L’Chaim!
@However
Thank you my Jewish sister! It is so good to meet another proud Jew such as you. I was hoping that you would say all that, even if most of it is hogwash but who cares. We call all kinds of names anyone who doubts us proud Jews.
Our Brother Begin said it best:
“OUR RACE IS THE MASTER RACE. WE ARE DIVINE GODS ON THIS PLANET. WE ARE AS DIFFERENT FROM THE INFERIOR RACES AS THEY ARE FROM INSECTS. IN FACT, COMPARED TO OUR RACE, OTHER RACES ARE BEASTS AND ANIMALS, CATTLE AT BEST. OTHER RACES ARE CONSIDERED AS HUMAN EXCREMENT. OUR DESTINY IS TO RULE OVER THE INFERIOR RACES. OUR EARTHLY KINGDOM WILL BE RULED BY OUR LEADER WITH A ROD OF IRON. THE MASSES WILL LICK OUR FEET, AND SERVE US AS OUR SLAVES.” –Menachem Begin (Israeli Prime Minister, 1977-1983)
I also believe that we do not receive enough credit for being human history’s greatest murderers. Hitler is a clumsy beginner compared to us.
We are the best!

Please don’t deny your being Jewish – or maybe you just don’t know it.
Until I started posting her, I thought I was an ex-Catholic. I was wrong, just like you I didn’t know “THE TRUTH”.
“A previous Bernie” called me a Jewish Whore. Who knew?

Sexual abuse among Israel’s Ultra-Orthodox
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1809880,00.html
Among Israel’s ultra-orthodox Jews, the Haredim, social workers are often called “child-snatchers” and the police “Cossacks,” harking back to the 19th century pogroms against Jews in Russia. These cloistered communities, in which women are expected to raise and financially support their large families while their husbands spend their days stooped over the Torah, make up 10% of Israel’s population and a third of Jerusalem’s, and consider themselves defenders of a core morality in Jewish society. But that moral authority has come under scrutiny since evidence began to emerge in March of incest, rape and child abuse in four different ultra-orthodox enclaves around the country.

שלןם Menahem Begin never said that.Complete fabrication. If you are jewish ,you are sick
if you are not jewish then it must be H1N1

“Who wouldn’t be proud to be part of the oldest continuous culture in human history”
Who wouldn’t be proud to be Chinese?
@Sophist: “Who wouldn’t be proud to be Chinese?” Don’t be so contrary.
He’s talking about pagans.
And yes we are extremely proud to have survived all those patronising I’m_better_than_the_next_person sorts.
Greatly enjoyed Samhain, now on to the Winter solstice and Alban Arthuan (Yule, Mabon, Jul, Saturnalia…)!
As far as I was aware, the oldest continuous culture in the world belongs to the Australian Aborigines. http://www.aboriginalculture.com.au/introduction.shtml
Sehr verdrehte jobbiks oder sollte ich sagen
jobniks.
lest imre kertesz interview in der welt.Wenn
ihr es koennt.Ich weiss ,ich weiss er ist jude
aber er selbst sieht sich nicht so..
@judas: I’m just hoping your reference to being ‘very twisted Jobbik or should I say jobbniks’ wasn’t addressed to either Sophist, Cináed or myself? If it was, you need to climb out of your own arse and look at the world in the cold light of day, with a sense of perspective and balance.
Strangely enough I couldn’t give a shit about Imre Kertesz opinions, just his writing.
vanderlo
i addressed the jobbiks….)))
@Judas: Fair enough! Thought this article on the whole over reaction and dissecting of Kertész’s passing thoughts was reasonably well balanced and hard look at the whole thing (mistranslation, nationality, cultural identity etc..): http://www.hirszerzo.hu/cikk.egy_gyokertelen_szellemi_homeless.130157.html
Vandorlo,
i read kertezs interview in german including his
“clarifications” which are mounting to nothing.
the basic accusations are still there and as i may
point out are actually hitting some hungarian
nails spot on. Its a kind of tabu-breaking and i wish it would spark a real sincere discussion.
I am afraid though it will end up in smearing him
for living in berlin ,simply a “nestbeschmutzer”.
Why the uproar about Brother Kertezs telling the Hungarians what we Jews think of them and all those goys? Do not tell me that the goys don’t already know tat we think that they are trash? We Jews are racist and we spit on everyone. So what?
Anyone who makes anything of it is a Jew-hater, anti-Semite and Nazi.
@Judas: I can appreciate that, but the article’s author László Seres was a German major (if my memory serves me well) and writes not just in detail about the article but about its cultural reception. Neatly fitting, as it seemed to, the inherent biases and social tensions you raised (though for me your words and sentiments are far harsher than my experience).
Obviously, I enjoyed the article most since it echoed what I felt: ‘Does it hurt so much, a person’s newspaper interview, from one whom we have hardly heard a word since they received the Nobel prize, apart from what a “no mark” they are.’ (“Ennyira fáj annak az embernek egy lapinterjúja, akiről Nobel-díjának átvétele óta mást sem hallunk, csak azt, mekkora nímand.”)
p.s. The Hungarian “nímand” is pretty pejorative term for worthless person. The only phrase I could think of was ‘no-mark’ though this is only used in the North of England as far as I know and then not very widely – it’s certainly not in the dictionary. Other suggestions welcome!!
Maybe, “nímand” = ‘waste of space’?
Kedves Vándorló,
“Nobody” or “nonentity” would also do for meaning.
I think the Hungarian word looks derieved from the German “niemand”, meaning nobody. Hungarians have been known to borrow words from German.
@Vandorloooooo
Interesting hey Vandorloo !! how your neo liberal dogs of scum operate, your group liberals are truly the worst bastards in History!! I’m sure your part of Kun Bela relatives.. Check this out
Vona Gábor,the leader of Jobbik,the third largest political party in Hungary.
It as recently come to our attention that somebody has created a ‘twitter’ account under the name of ‘vonagaborjobbik’ and this is purely to attack and defame the character of Mr.Vona Gábor.The account is making derogatory comments and deliberately inciting antagonistic responses.
See how your demagogue group are spreading lies! You’re a disgrace.
@Law: If it wasn’t/isn’t him then 100 people or more were taken in, not just me. Also, given the comments and apparent inside knowledge of Gábor’s activity it has to be one of you lot. Are you saying that twitter.com/vonagaborjobbik is not Vona Gábor’s activity? Any proof? Links to a denial would help.
Anyway, don’t worry, you should look at SZDSZ’s one time leader János Kóka’s twitter account. He has tens if not hundreds of followers that appear to be fake! No tweets, picture or info and only following him. http://bit.ly/4ABFr9
There are plenty of other accounts of politicians that are clearly fake.
If you are right, then I was taken in by Vona Gábor’s nonsense. I should have known as soon as I suspected he had a sense of humour. That just doesn’t fit: (e.g. “Egyesek szerint a Gárda egyenruhája a Tesco-s biztonsági őrök viseletét idézi. Ennek vége! Lakatos Márk fantáziájára bíztam az outfitünket!”)
@Laci: Thanks for the great suggestions. I like ‘nonentity’, as in ‘complete nonentity’. Was talking to a friend a few days ago about how best to explain adjective intensifiers to people – the ones I have from books all seem rather patchy and meagre. This would have been a good example for that, too!!
@ Frank Farago
Thank you for your kind invitation – you obviously have a deep concern for the sexual abuse of women and children in religious cults.
The world need more men like you committed to stamping out violence against women and children around the world
There is no need for me to go to Israel should I wish to become a victim. Could just visit your state and it’s driving distance.
Type “religious cults and sexual abuse of children” on a google search. You will get a thousand hits.
Interesting how you singled out Israel.
Since you are so dedicated to the cause, why don’t you follow the on-going trials in Texas? (Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) – I believe one man was sentenced for 10 years a couple of days ago. More to follow
I would also hazard to guess that if you zero in on Israel (or any country in the world) you will find all kinds of atrocities.
Why exactly did you decide to do “your research” in Israel? I just know there is a compelling sociological answer that you omitted in your post.
@Law
What of it?
It is the right of Jews and Communists to libel and defame anyone we want to.
That is the way we work and only the Jew-haters, anti-Semites and Nazis object.
We say that there is none more beautiful than Ildiko Lendvai and only Jew-haters, anti-Semites and Nazis claim that she is an ugly, mean and hatful Jewish Communist woman.
@Olga
It is not Frank Farago but Bernie, my love.
Our mutual very good friend changed my name but it is still Bernie Madoff.
It is only natural for us Jews to discuss our real home, Israel because so many of our Jewish brothers and sisters have homes in Israel, Hungary and of course New Jersey.
What is your problem with Israel, Olga? I hope you are not one of those Israel hating Nazis. We cannot have that.
Bernie,
Would you please get back to work? You are hyper-fragmenting the work environment here and this is not what I pay my employees to DO.
Besides since *I* am a Jew I do not appreciate my employees blasting their hatred of my people all over the Internet, much less in Hungary of all places.
Now that I have seen what you do all day, if I see this continue we will be having a very serious meeting in my office. This hatred you have is not welcome in my office.
Michael L.
…or has the boss become the employee… So much hatred from one fat slob… hard to believe…
@ law
Vandorlo directed me to a Stormfront website once.
It mentioned a JOBBIK conspiracy and said Gabor Vona was Jewsih, Krisztina Morvai was a foreigner or something along those lines.
Why did Vona change his last name? Did he ever explain it? It seems strange to have a birth name that sounds Slavik and then run on a “Tiszta Magyar” platform – does it seem strange to you?
Yes there are some Ukrainians where I worked (a marina website) who have last names that sound Jewish but are not and they got so angry that people thought they were Jewish that it began to bother them so much they started to become overtly anti-semitic.
Eventually he got caught up with some bad people, got arrested etc. which was just the beginning of his bad luck –
The point being I guess some people really don’t like being confused for Jewish people so much it makes them lose all their marbles and get paranoid etc., eh “Bernie”?
@Olga;
Why Vona Gabor changed his last name, was asked from somebody else about 2 weeks to a month ago. Off the top of my head, I don’t recall who answered, anyhow, they said he took his Grandfathers last name, apparently he died in WWII.
@ justasking
Actually it was me 2 weeks ago but no one replied. I tried to figure it out on my own but I couldn’t. The JOBBIK website makes no reference to it.
As you know, it’s unusual for a male to change his last name.
When someone with a non-Magyar last name changes his name and then runs as a candidate for a “Tiszta Magyar” party , the term “hidden agenda” “dishonesty” “hypocrisy” comes to mind.
Given Vona’s personal circumstances, changing his name to honour his Grandfather sounds about as sincere as Bernie’s support of Israel.
Well I have it on good info that “Bernie’s” mom is Hungarian so maybe she can do his Hungarian translations from now on — Bernie you mind if we just send your posts directly to her and let HER translate them into Hungarian for you?
You could fake credibility slightly better that way…
One time I hire junior system admin for nightshift 4 to midnight and I find out me empyolee was pertending 2B hungarian so I hire!!!!
Funny when junior sysadmin nightshift people try an getaway with stuffff!!!!
I new to politics.hu but I like here, my English needs work!!!! thank you
@Olga: Found and interview that goes into Vona’s family and background in more detail http://barikad.hu/node/34279
Part of this interview also features on the Heti Válasz website ( http://www.hetivalasz.hu/cikk/0908/vona_interju ).
Of course, this is his (Vona’s) version. Will be interesting to see if in time this also ties with what researchers or historians find.
Hello people,
Combining politics with an obsession with ethnic purity, leads to many absurdities. Once we witness name-changing, background falsification, doctoring and/or denial of ancestry, you can be sure that we are going down a path that has been tried before in Europe, and with not good results.
It represents exclusionism, and as such you can’t build consensus in a democracy around such ideas. Blood purism needs a dictatorship in order to flourish. An examination of the genaology of many Hungarians would show a lot of mixed ancestry.
The thing about racial exceptionalism, is that exceptions can be made for people who have proven worth to those making the rules. Just yesterday I was reading about one of Hermann Goering’s Luftwaffe subordinates, his right hand man, General Milch. Milch was known to have a Jewish father. No problem, as long as the mother was willing to sign an affidavit that she had commited adultery and that the Jew was not the father. Goering had said: “It is I who decide who is a Jew!”
Another example from that time was film actress Pola Negri. She left Germany to star in American films. There she flopped and so came back to Germany. Hitler was infatuated with her; Goebbels, who was in charge of all German film, was wary of her. Goebbels had her background investigated and found Jewish ancestry. Hitler commissioned his own investigation, with the purpose of clearing her. She was cleared. Goebbels fumed. So it goes.
@Olga;
If you know how to check some of you old comments, go back and reread some of the threads for it will be there. Unless of course somebody else asked that question as well. I remember the answer because it struck me as strange. Like you said 1) a man changing his last name (don’t hear that very often) 2) Taking a persons Grandparents name.
@ Vandorlo
If Zazrivecs Laszlo is so supportive of his son’s adopting the “Vona” name, why did he not go back to his own birth name when he became an adult to honour his father? ( I can understand he had no choice when he was a child) Moreover, he had no problems passing the Zazrivecs name to his own son.
The Grandfather, Vona Gabor died approximately 65 years ago and I have no reason to doubt he was a war hero. Having his abandoned name dragged out for political purposes seems pretty contemptible.
Of course it could be sheer coincidence that honouring his name and the Tiszta Magyar agenda materialized in his grandson’s mind at the same time.
Thanks for the link – I understand the name change. Perfectly clear.
@Bystander
Bernie has some information about your mom but this is not that kind of forum.
Bernie is Jewish, just as Jewish as Lendvai is Hungarian and some other posters here.
You sound like a Jew-thing, anti-Semitic Nazi to question Bernie’s pure and noble Jewish heritage. Do not do that no more!!!
@Law: You may want to have a look at the fake Vona Gábor twitter feed. Despite what you said (“Interesting hey Vandorloo !! how your neo liberal dogs of scum operate, your group liberals are truly the worst bastards in History!!”), it’s clear this is one of the usual suspects:
“Mostanra mindenki számára világos, hogy nem az igazi Vona Gábor vagyok! Leleplezésként üzenem neki és a Jobbiknak: BEKAPHATJÁK! Üdv:Tomcat! 12:46 AM Nov 20th from web ”
If you can’t understand it, get a real Hungarian to help you.
