Szonda Ipsos poll sees Socialists, Jobbik making slight gains

Hungary’s governing Socialists have slightly risen from their low point, though conservative opposition Fidesz maintains a massive lead, according to a November poll by Szonda Ipsos carried in Friday’s Nepszabadsag daily.

Support for the Socialists among all voters rose two points to 12 percent in November compared to 35 percent for Fidesz, the paper said.

Among decided voters, the Socialists got 17 percent backing last month as against 65 percent for the main opposition Fidesz. This month, the Socialists received 19 percent support from decided voters against 64 percent by Fidesz.

Radical nationalist Jobbik party continued to make gains, with their support rising to 6 percent among all voters and 12 percent among decided voters.

Other parties, such as the conservative Democratic Forum, the liberal Free Democrats and the green LMP are far from the 5 percent threshold necessary to get into parliament.
