Budapest Mayor Gábor Demszky yesterday bestowed honorary citizenship on ten people at City Hall. Gyula Grosics, goalkeeper of the legendary Hungarian football side of the 1950s, recently refused the award, as he felt he was the only person on the right of the political spectrum to be so honoured.
The awards were given to landscape architect György Bálint, writer Péter Esterházy, sociologist Zsuzsa Ferge, architect József Finta, conductor Ádám Fischer, historian Ferenc Glatz, puppeteer Henrik Gyurkó, scientific consultant Ferenc Irk, writer Tibor Méray and Gusztáv Zoltai, executive director of the Jewish federation Mazsihisz.

Hmmmm..."right of the political spectrum". Well,
lets remember that in 1944-45 he had been a
volunteer in the 25th SS Hunyadi Páncélgránátos
Hadosztály (SS Hunyadi Armored Division). (In fact
according to the Treaty of Paris any volunteer in
this SS division is a "war criminal). But I guess
that was a long time ago.
Can't handle the truth you headless chicken.
Rákóczi gang of commies, i too would spit on these awards.
i nearly forgot “Adjon az Isten "
With names like that, I would have thought they were all already citizens. How did the footballer play for Hungary if he was not a Hungarian citizen? Honorary citizenship, so what countries do these people come from?
@david:
I think it is meant to be "Honorary Citizenship of Budapest"...
