A new left-wing party called Free People for Hungary (Szema) made its first public appearance on Wednesday, national daily Nepszava said.
Founded in October, Szema aims to offer a genuine choice to left-wing and liberal voters in parliamentary elections next spring.
The new party features several former members of the liberal Free Democrats, including Klara Ungar, who quit that party in June this year.
Ungar said that the new party seeks to mobilise the 280,000 liberal and 1 million left-wing voters who had become "politically orphaned" over the recent period and stayed away from the last election.
She said that Szema would be a anti-racist party with a strong commitment to civic rights.

Heres an idea, instead of starting all theses silly little political parties FIX THE FUCKING ECONOMY!!! Get almost everyone to stop living off the government teet and doing something for themselves where they're not going to get raped by taxes for all their gains. You do this and the racism will dissipate with greater prosperity.
Ah another communist party.....
This in an environment where not even the two biggest parties can command a majority! The country is already so very divided. The last thing it needs is more fragmentation. Any party that wins is going to have to compromise a lot with other parties in order to govern. This all smacks of ego tripping.
We need more pragmatism. How will we build wealth? How will we stop being so poor? How will we build private investment and enterprise? What are we going to export? What are we going to do about corruption? What about crime? How do we exploit the EU (and not the other way around)? What are we going to do about energy policy?
What are the policy goals of this new party? What do they want to do that isn't being addressed by the other parties? Who's going to vote for them? I wonder if Ungar and her people know the answers to any of these questions.

Thinking about it, many EU member states are run by come coalition Government (or minority Government with either fixed or jumping support).
Except for the UK, which is anyway just a bleak 'original' to the US, Continental Europe run with representative voting systems, which easily creates coalitions.
I do not know why this would be bad?
It creates coalitions, consensus-thinking, compromises, instead of the somewhat big shifts the UK/US-system does.
Given CNN and Fox News and the US Health Care debate it is hard to see the US as a very homogeneous society.
And so far, Hungarian soldiers have not starting killing each other over differences in opinion over their country's foreign policy.
Hi Viking,
Coalition govt is common in Europe. The more parties you need to be part of a governing colaition, the moer deal making and compromises have to be made. Italy is one extrmeme example.
I just see any attempt to start still more parties at this point as just a political group holding the governing process hostage to their egos. Others may see it different of course. It is all to possible for a bigger and more established party to steal votes by adopting or co-opting the issues and concerns of a smaller party.
I still don't know anything about these people and what they really want, other than to assume that they want to hold up lawmaking and make it conditional on their presence.
Petőfi Sándor was a great poet because he wrote and spoke direct from the heart. Everyone could understand the messages explicit in his writing.
He motivated the Hungarian people and gave them
hope.. he lost his life fighting for a united, free, Hungary.
Politicians in Hungary today are worthless compared to this great man. They have no idea how the "free market" works and do more harm than good.
These soppy so-called left-wing parties are nothing more than low-caliber,ideological idiots, who have no platform other than civic rights issues?
Mr Farkas László your erudite scribblings are impressive, unlike the cabbages that pose as politicians, seeking to represent Hungary and Hungarians with pathetic side-issues. Fix the economy; unite Hungarians with a single goal of ridding this land of corrupt communist practices. This will pave the way for improvements, surely?

Is that not what you have Viktor Orban for?
Kedves Magyar Vagyok,
I appreciate your understanding. If you had been reading my writing for some time, you would know that my view is that the current condition, which you so rightly decry, is a result of our history. The politicians in some way reflect the understanding and historical experience of the people. I know this to be true not just for Hungary, but any nation. If some nation is in a significantly better situation than us, then a look at it's historical experience, along with the cultural mindset, would explain most of the difference.
Not only our politicians don't understand much about the "free market", but neither do a great many of the people they govern. It will take time, and a new generation that comes from a different education and experience to really alter this. I've often compared our situation to that of a nation of newly emancipated slaves, or a post-colonial setting, like in Africa.
Most disturbing sign to me, is the billions that have been lent to us by the west both during and after communism, that wasted away with no sign that any of it was put to good economic use. By good use, I mean investing it in some way that produces returns. Returns that then enable us to pay back these loans, increase our credit standing and then qualify us for still more loans. (No rich developed nation has financed it's development purely with internal funds. All of them, the US included, have relied on foreign capital and borrowing)

(To Magyar Vagyok)
The latest sizable cash infusion amounted to over 60 billion Euros! That's a lot of damn money for a small country that is flat on it's face! Where did it go? It's gotten to the point where I can't resist asking, but then don't feel like I can stomach a truthful answer. Yet 60 billion is nothing, a drop in the bucket to the powers that lent it to us; there is plenty more they could lend us. Based on what they have seen of us and our leaders, I doubt they will be very willing. To them, we must seem like a people who just don't seem to know what they are doing. We appear too econmically clueless to be entrusted with still more borrowed riches. A good test question would be: what would we do with another 60 billion, assuming someone were foolish enough to lend it to us?
You can have all the political parties you want, but these important issues remain. They would continue to weigh on any governing coalition.
I am a Hungarian nationalist who is not afraid of business, capital borrowing, international capital, of forming multinationals under our control, of deal making and all the other "games" that empower a people in today's world. I'm not optimistic that our experience and comfort level with such things is going to change any time soon, but I have hope for the future and our youth.
By aquiring wealth through means other than corruption, we empower ourselves; that appeals to the patriot in me. Being poor, does not.
Dear FL:
I have a hunch where the many Milliards (billions) have gone, because something similar happened in East Germany in the last 20 years:
Most of it was spent on shiny new things like cars, tvs, computers and so on. The problem there is that these are not real investments which give back some money over time...
Liebe wolfi,
Genau! It was all about a political class buying time and buying off social discontent with social spending, and the population not knowing any better. It was like spending your very last money on champagne, knowing that tomorrow you will be broke.
I am all in favor of social democracy and social spending. But you can't neglect the means to pay for same! There has to be business development as well.
On a personal note, I as a Hungarian feel nothing but embarassment and disgrace that you are called a nazi on this website by some crank, just because you are German. You have not written anything that would feed such an impression. When someone sinks low enough, they don't just disgrace themselves, but they disgrace and disrespect us all.
Dear FL:
We not only have similar names, but also similar views, so it seems. Thanks for your kind remarks, but I don't mind being called names by crazies...
The funny thing is: I consider myself a liberal person, which some reactionary rightwingers equal with communism...
On the other hand, for some extremists on the left (and I still know a few communists from the 60s and 70s in Germany) to be liberal is to be a really bad capitalist...
BTW: we are back in Hungary right mow and will travel a bit, let's see what the situation is now for the common people...
Did you have to go home to get Adolph’s picture?
@Everybody:
Bernie is still listening in on our conversations, but it seems he doesn't have much more to say..
Probably fried the last of his few remaining brain cells...
You can hang your Adolph’s picture next to your picture of Rakosi and Stalin
@Farkas
This list is a disgrace. It is a disgrace to call Hungarians who only want to live as Hungarians in their own country Nazis, Fascists and anti-Semites especially when the Communists, mostly
Jewish Communists are still in power in Hungary and still abusing the Hungarians.
You could have a balanced discussion of Hungarian events without the anti-Hungarian rhetoric but the discussions are set up for anti-Hungarian propaganda.
To add insult to injury; we have a German, probably the son of a German Nazi who periodically calls Hungarians and Jobbik Nazi.
I have never met a Hungarian Nazi but I met many German Nazis and Jewish and other Communists. Get a grip…
