Hungary’s Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai attended a meeting of the liberal opposition Free Democrats’ parliamentary group on Monday to discuss the party’s support for the 2010 budget.
The minority ruling Socialists need the liberal votes for passing next year’s budget.
The Free Democrats have not yet made a final decision on supporting the budget, group leader Janos Koka said, but added that no one voiced a rejection at the meeting.
Bajnai said after the meeting that he had asked the group to support the budget and that he received reassurance on support.
Koka said that Bajnai and the MPs reviewed the budget bill and the government’s crisis-management plans until elections next spring. He added that the Free Democrats made it clear that they would only support market-oriented policies which are aimed at boosting competition.
A final vote on the budget is set for November 30.
