Hungary’s social welfare system needs to be rethought, Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai told a gathering arranged by the Hungarian Democratic Charta on Monday.
Bajnai added that “anyone who is physically able should observe the basic norms of social co-existence, profit from social opportunities and not allow children to be born into poverty. A solution must be found to change the 57% (adult) employment rate, which is expected to deteriorate,” he underlined.
Hungarian democracy is disintegrating, as things that were unacceptable earlier are now becoming standard practice, Bajnai told the conference.
“Extremists have been able to gain strength by tackling pertinent issues – corruption, public safety and Roma integration – to which the democratic centre has been unable to provide answers,” he concluded.
