Prime Minister Gordon Bajnai is scheduled to pay a visit to Washington D.C. in the second half of next week, Wednesday's daily Nepszabadsag said it had learnt from sources.
Budapest, however, has not confirmed the information, the paper was told at the Embassy of Hungary in Washington at a Tuesday event.
Nepszabadsag learnt from sources that the Hungarian PM has been invited to the White House by Vice President Joe Biden.
At such high level visits there are occasions that the US president briefly joins the meeting, as it was the case with George W. Bush during a visit by a former Hungarian prime minister, the paper said.
Bajnai's visit will coincide with a visit by former foreign minister Janos Martonyi, who is scheduled to speak at an event hosted by the Hungarian American Coalition, at the Johns Hopkins University and the Aspen Institute.
Martonyi is seen as a possible candidate for foreign minister of the main opposition Fidesz party, if it wins the general elections next spring.
