Fidesz retains wide lead ahead of ruling Socialists in fresh Tarki poll

The main opposition Fidesz party maintained its significant lead ahead of the ruling Socialists in the poll conducted by Tarki in November.

The radical nationalist Jobbik would be the only other party to clear the 5 percent threshold to win seats in Hungary’s Parliament.

Fidesz currently enjoys 39 percent support from all voters, the Socialists have 11 percent, and Jobbik 6 percent, all three the same as in October.

Among voters with clear party preferences, Fidesz maintained a 46 percentage point lead ahead of the Socialists.

Among decided voters who would turn out for the vote, Fidesz was backed by 68 percent, the Socialists by 17 percent and Jobbik by 11 percent.

The two minor opposition parties in parliament, the liberal Free Democrats and the Hungarian Democratic Forum, as well as the green LMP would not pass the threshold, according to current polling results.

If elections were held this Sunday, 44 percent of eligible voters would turn out for the vote, down from 48 percent a month ago.
