Viktor Orban, leader of the main opposition Fidesz party, wants to form the next government in a fast and efficient manner next spring, he told MTI on Friday.
Orban, whose party appears in polls as the winner of next year’s general elections ahead of the now ruling Socialists, pledged to investigate “all shady affairs” of the current government immediately after the elections and take a “rapid diagnosis” of the state of affairs in public finance. That analysis will decide whether to change the budget or prepare a new one, Orban said, adding that he was inclined to prefer the latter.
The opposition leader referred to a meeting earlier in the day with economists who had expressed critical views of the 2010 budget passed on November 30, and said that the meeting had convinced him that the budget was “a fraud”.
Orban also said that his party was considering a two or three-year scheme to boost the national economy, which will determine next year’s budget changes.
