Slovak cultural institute in Budapest damaged in attack by vandal

Hungary’s Foreign Ministry condemns the vandalisation of Slovakia’s cultural institute in Budapest, Foreign Minister Peter Balazs told MTI on Monday.

The minister, who is currently staying in Brussels, said, that “the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Hungary firmly condemns the vandalisation of the Budapest cultural institute to the Slovak Republic and expresses its regret over the incident.”

Budapest police told MTI earlier on Monday that an as yet unidentified person had broken the windows of Slovakia’s cultural institute in central Budapest.

Press officer Oszkar Sass said that the vandalism, which has been the third attack on the building since the summer, had happened early on Sunday.

According to Slovak tabloid Novy Cas, the perpetrator was a young man, who kicked the window.

“We are regarding such attacks as vandalism, though they are now happening with worrying frequency,” Slovak foreign affairs spokesman Peter Stano said, adding that his government trusted that Hungarian authorities would do their best to investigate the attacks.
