The Democratic Forum national council elected Horn-era finance minister Lajos Bokros as its candidate for prime minister with an over 90% majority on Saturday, the party announced. The Forum explained in a statement that 61 delegates had voted in favour of Bokros, while one dissented and five abstained.
The conservative party underlined that Bokros is a genuine challenger to Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán, and “the personality who can attract all those voters who believe that the last eight years of governance were a waste of time, and that a level-headed, normal, conservative economic policy U-turn is now required”.
The national list was not on the agenda of the council meeting, however. Whether Bokros will lead the Forum’s national list or its Budapest list remains in the balance, Népszabadság writes.
