Fidesz publishes final list of candidates for next general election

Hungary’s main opposition Fidesz party published a finalised list of its candidates for the next parliament on Monday.

The list, presented after a meeting of the party’s national board, contains 176 candidates, half of whom are already MPs in the current parliament.

Four members of the party’s presidium – Tibor Navracsics, Zoltan Pokorni, Lajos Kosa and Mihaly Varga – will run in an individual constituency in the spring elections, while party leader Viktor Orban is not on the list of individual candidates.

The contraversial mayor of the north Hungarian town of Edeleny, who gained ill fame for anti-Roma and anti-Semitic remarks, was not included in the final list of Fidesz candidates.

Fidesz is slated to triumph over the ruling Socialist party according to current poll standings.
